Discounted solar Liverpool city region
Don't usually post on this board but saw and registered an interest in a discounted solar scheme in Liverpool organised by the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayors office.…

Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Have any installers managed to claim this successfully? We had ours installed on 23/8/22; OFGEM said they would send the £5k in 7 working days, which never happened. They then said they wanted to carry an on site audit, which took place on 16/9/22. After 3 weeks they raised a minor query which my installer dealt with the…

Spooked …….. ?
Good morning all ….. I hope others find it tolerable to post a general rather rambling philosophical question. I’m acutely aware that this is a purchase where very few really fully understand what it is that they are buying and therefore asking more is better than asking less in order to avoid the inevitable…

Final check before committing to solar PV quote
Hi, I posted our very first solar PV quote on here for feedback, and since then have spoken to a number of other installers. We have now decided who we would like to go with, and I just wanted to sense-check the quote before we go ahead. Also couple of things re the panels: * we asked for the price differential if we had…

Charging solar batteries overnight
Can anyone tell me why you can get a cheap tariff to charge your electric vehicle overnight but not a solar battery? Using cheap off-peak electricity to charge the battery during the winter when the sun is less likely to do the job seems to be a no-brainer. It would take the pressure off the national grid. The Tesla…

Energy Bill Help cut back to 1/4/23
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63283436 The timing would coincide well for the peak generation period for 2023. Looks like PV payback periods may end up significantly shorter.

Help with panel quote?
Unfortunately I am not very technical and I am generally very suspicious of installers, but I am a passionate energy saver, both for the planet and the wallet. So would like to get a sense check of this solar quote from a company called Rest. First my context: 4 bedroom detached house in London, being offered 8x 375 panels…

Installer went bust - who gets the FIT??
This refers to a school where I'm one of the guv's. We had a largish - I think around 14-16 panels and two inverters - PV system fitted a good 10+ years ago. It was, as I just about recall, partly with a grant and partly 'free' by a company who claimed the FIT. I can get this info, tho' don't have it at the mo'. Anyhoo,…

Mixergy with heat pump - Worth it?
I don't have a tank atm, and my plan of action for the house is: Solar PV + batteries Then get an MVHR Upsize my radiators Then buy an ASHP and ditch gas entirely. They say that the COP is improved by 5-10% but let's say that your COP is the UK average of 2.8. Would a COP of 3.08 really be worth it, if this tank probably…

Replacement monitor advice please
I dropped my 9 year old Geo monitor and since then the display is too feint to read. Now it’s more important than ever to know when to use electricity so I would like to replace the Geo with another device which will do the trick. Details of set up in my signature and I’ve just had a smart meter fitted if that makes any…

Another PV and battery quote
Hi, just wanted to get your opinion on a quote my brother has received. Based on what I have read on this board, I think it looks ok, but it is always nice to get a broader opinion. The total quote is from a new company called Make My House Green and is for £15,700. It includes: 7.8kWp panels (20×390W) (either JA or QCell…

Generation Meter Issues
Hi Guys - hopefully one of you can help. Recently moved into a property that has a 4kw solar panel system (18 panels in total), and have inherited the old feed in tariff. The solars are definitely working, as since being switched back on my elec readings have slowed (on a non smart meter), and my Solar iBoost system is…

Iboost v gas cost
Hi, I am thinking of programing the iboost timer to heat the hot water cyclinder on the Go tarrif at the reduced rate, will that work out cheaper/efficient compared to gas currently? Thanks

Solar panels
I have had solar panels on my roof for many years now under the rent a roof scheme. I have today been contacted by an engineer who advised that they have not generated electric for a month and require attention. They are to be ‘fixed’ Saturday at no cost to us. I feel that very soon the panels should be ours but I’m…

Planning Permission for a 10kW heat pump - Fire Safety Policy compliance
I have submitted a Planning Application for a 10kW Heat Pump as I live in England so anything over 0.6m3 requires permission to be installed. I chased up the planning department (in Wandsworth) to see how it was going, and they told me the application is on hold, because every single application now need to show compliance…

Using BEV as a house backup battery.
I've heard that Ford in the US have a scheme where you can use your BEV as battery storage for your home. This makes a lot of sense to me as you have a big battery sitting on your drive doing nothing a lot of the time, why not use it?I don't suppose anything like this is available here yet? Opinions?

A Conundrum - Gas boiler flow temperature versus Off Peak cylinder heating.
My 250L hot water cylinder has happily been re-heated over the past 8 months from PV solar. Now that my PV solar output is falling, I am trying to work out the best way forward. I am on GoFaster at 8.5p/kWh and my gas Is on Tracker capped at 6p/kWh. My stats show that electric hot water re-heating uses 60% of what I would…

Deposit Protection?
I’ve had several visits and found the process stressful! I’m looking at an MCS well-established installer who I’m as confident in as prudently possible and I’ll no doubt soon be handing over a meaty deposit. With instal lead times extending I’m twitchy about the risk. They aren’t on the HIES list so no protection there.…
