Octopus Outgoing Tariff & Deemed Export

Just had smart meters fitted by Octopus.
Solar panels
South facing
Installed 2011
2.07 KWp
Being paid £0.0425 deemed export.
Thinking about going onto Octopus Outgoing tariff that would pay me .15p / Kw export.
From Octopus FAQ's
You may find you are still better off keeping the Deemed 50% than switching to Outgoing Octopus
Question is how doing I calculate which is better ?
If it helps I have exported 1.5KWh & imported 14.6KWh since installation of the smart meters on March 16th.
There has been very little sun to be honest with me.

Deemed Export assumes that you export 50% of what you generate. Suppose you use 85% of what you generate. For every 2 kWh of generation you are assumed to export 1 kWh so that would earn you 4.25p (I assume your figure is correct). But actually you exported 0.3 kWh which would earn you 4.5p on the Octopus Outgoing tariff. That's more or less the same so if you use less than about 85% of what you generate (i.e. you export more than 15% of your generation) then you would earn more from Octopus Outgoing.Reed1

My deemed export rate is correct at 4.25p.
Could you explain your comment, how did you get that figure ?
But actually you exported 0.3 kWh

the deemed export price will presumably increase in April, so I think it’ll be 4.82 assuming you’ve not already adjusted the above for inflation?PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)1

How much are you producing and how much are you exporting. It needs to be for the whole year. Then you can work it out.If you produce only 2kwh all year you will be deemed to have exported half so will be paid 4.5p. However you may have used all of it and will still get that money.
if you go onto an export tarif at 15 p and don’t use any electricity yourself you will get 30 p. But if you used all that you produced you would get nothing.
if you only exported 0.3 kWh then you would get the 4.5p1 -

Deemed export would be 605.
Electricity usage in the same period 2200 kwh

The point is that few people manage to use as much as 85% of what they generate so unless your one of the few you would be better off on the Octopus Outgoing tariff. Only you can tell by comparing the amount you export with the amount you generate.Reed1 -

TIAI'm not sure you could backdate it, but you have your generation meter and your smart meter will have an export register even if you don't have an export tariff. Read the two one day, then again another, the difference in increases on each meter will tell you how much of what you generated was exported, and how much you used. Will only be a snapshot, but if you were using say, 50% over the next couple of weeks, it's unlikely the self usage would get any higher in the summer when there's more sun.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
