Another PV and battery quote
Hi, just wanted to get your opinion on a quote my brother has received. Based on what I have read on this board, I think it looks ok, but it is always nice to get a broader opinion. The total quote is from a new company called Make My House Green and is for £15,700. It includes: 7.8kWp panels (20×390W) (either JA or QCell…

Generation Meter Issues
Hi Guys - hopefully one of you can help. Recently moved into a property that has a 4kw solar panel system (18 panels in total), and have inherited the old feed in tariff. The solars are definitely working, as since being switched back on my elec readings have slowed (on a non smart meter), and my Solar iBoost system is…

Iboost v gas cost
Hi, I am thinking of programing the iboost timer to heat the hot water cyclinder on the Go tarrif at the reduced rate, will that work out cheaper/efficient compared to gas currently? Thanks

Solar panels
I have had solar panels on my roof for many years now under the rent a roof scheme. I have today been contacted by an engineer who advised that they have not generated electric for a month and require attention. They are to be ‘fixed’ Saturday at no cost to us. I feel that very soon the panels should be ours but I’m…

Planning Permission for a 10kW heat pump - Fire Safety Policy compliance
I have submitted a Planning Application for a 10kW Heat Pump as I live in England so anything over 0.6m3 requires permission to be installed. I chased up the planning department (in Wandsworth) to see how it was going, and they told me the application is on hold, because every single application now need to show compliance…

Using BEV as a house backup battery.
I've heard that Ford in the US have a scheme where you can use your BEV as battery storage for your home. This makes a lot of sense to me as you have a big battery sitting on your drive doing nothing a lot of the time, why not use it?I don't suppose anything like this is available here yet? Opinions?

A Conundrum - Gas boiler flow temperature versus Off Peak cylinder heating.
My 250L hot water cylinder has happily been re-heated over the past 8 months from PV solar. Now that my PV solar output is falling, I am trying to work out the best way forward. I am on GoFaster at 8.5p/kWh and my gas Is on Tracker capped at 6p/kWh. My stats show that electric hot water re-heating uses 60% of what I would…

Deposit Protection?
I’ve had several visits and found the process stressful! I’m looking at an MCS well-established installer who I’m as confident in as prudently possible and I’ll no doubt soon be handing over a meaty deposit. With instal lead times extending I’m twitchy about the risk. They aren’t on the HIES list so no protection there.…

Solar quotes - advice
Hi all, First time poster, long time lurker. Like many, I've been putting out feelers for a PV installation due to the increase in energy costs. I would love some feedback on the two quotes below. My gut reaction is that they are both expensive for what they offer. Quote 1 (11.1kWp), fully installed: 30 x SolarEdge Smart…

A few specific solar PV design questions
Hi, I have a few bits of questions and thought it best to bundle into 1 post. Grateful for any help from the knowledgeable people on here, thank you. 1. Realistic system loss% ?I've used the PVGIS calculator to input into my own spreadsheet, so I can model ROI based on our actual usage/patterns - rather than relying on the…

Batteries
In Southern England facing due south with an annual usage of around 7000kwh and a 6k’ish array with for the sake of simplicity normal hourly spread of usage hourly - as a “finger in the air” - what would be the maximum battery storage that one should consider as practically usable, budgetary considerations largely ignored…

Brick temperature outside showing as 12C
Is this normal? I bought myself a thermal image. It's a fairly cheap one from aliexpress, however I figure it's good to at least get something that can show me how much radiant heat something has I went outside, and my house was showing as 12C. My walls inside are showing around 18C. The ambient temperature here is about…

Solar Panel Installations
Late to the boat, but has anyone installed solar panels recently? Really not into anything DIY and the most basic googlefu points to the likes of EON and other big energy companies or the old "rent-a-roof" scheme. Any pointers when it comes to the types of panels, if I need a battery etc, good companies to recommend or…

Solar PV quote - feedback please
Hi, I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, learning as much as I can, before we went ahead to get some solar PV quotes. I've just had my first quote through today and would be really glad of any initial comments or feedback please. For background, we use 8500 kWh per annum (actual readings). No gas, oil fired…

Ufh vs replacing my radiators?
So The radiators in this house are likely over 20 years old Given that, I'm not sure whether it'd be worth getting new radiators, or getting ufh. I'm going to have to pay up anyway :( My heating is via gas currently too

Hot water cyclinder in loft
Hi I have a unvented 250 ltr hot water cyclinder located in the loft next to the system boiler which is programmed to heat the water 30 mins in the morning and again late in the afternoon at 60c. The issue I am finding is by early afternoon and late in the evening the water isn't as hot heat and sometimes requires a boost.…

Octopus agile outgoing
I'm just waiting for my G98 which I've been told will be done by Friday this week at the latest. I can then submit everything to join outgoing tariff. How long does it take on average once you press submit to when you're 'accepted' and can start getting paid for what you put back into the grid

FIT Deemed to Export or Opt Out
Hi I’ve read a few threads on this already but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. We were fortunate enough to have 15 PV panels installed on our house before the government stopped their 25 year guaranteed index linked FIT payment scheme in Oct 2011. So we get around 60p per kWh back currently. We’ve just had a…
