Frequency of active electricity tariff changing?

My friend tells me that he knows someone who [actively] changes his tariff on a daily basis, possibly more frequently, in order to get the best rates for import and export of electricity. Can this be correct? I did not know that this was even possible.

I'm guessing he means the prices within the tariff change daily or more, like Octopus Tracker or Agile.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I'm told the tariff changer sits on his computer making the tariff changes so my friend thinks it is an active process, not a passive one. But my friend could have misunderstood and be wrong, he's not very techyReed0

That sounds like a widget for Octopus Tracker that shows the daily rate.
(I don't have Tracker so don't know if this kind of widget is available, but I would be surprised if it isn't. Given how many different programmes are available for Octopus tariffs)
Unless your friend is doing something everyday, more than just looking at a widget on his computer screen, I would suggest he isn't actively changing anything. 😉4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire0 -
He might have something that picks out the cheapest Octopus Agile slots during each 24 hours?Barnsley, South Yorkshire

About a year ago, some Octopus customers were manually swapping tariffs frequently but I believe Octopus reacted by stopping changes more than once a month. It seems unlikely that any app would be able to break that rule.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50
