Recycling CD's / DVD's

I have read that DVD's and CD's contain rare metals and gold - and take over 1million years to biodegrade
Yet - no local councils accept them for recycling
They are recycleable but are not collected
Why would this be ?
I have a large number of DATA DVD's /CD's to dispose of and they will probably end up in landfill
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Pressed CDs are plastic and aluminium. Some early CD-R discs did actually have silver and/or gold in them. But most use chemical dyes now.I suspect the problem is that the cost of recycling them is more than the materials are worth. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
