Another quote price and equipment verification

Morning all,
octopus via open Solar quoted me for the below kit. We don’t have an EV and think this covers our 9kwh per day on av and 4000 kWh or so per year consumption. What do you think of the 12300 price tag and the kit?  Is the expected lifetime and warranties good enough? Haven’t had any other quotes and this stage and speaking to them tomorrow. Appreciate your advice! Paul

Welcome to the forums! My frank thoughts:

    1) Over priced. You should be paying no more than £9-10K for a top tier 5kWh battery inverter system like the Libbi paired to quality branded panels like Sharp/ REC/ Hyundai / Solarwatt/ Panasonic etc.

    2) The panel’s 12 year warranty are another warning sign, in an era when quality brands above offer much more at similar prices!

    3) 5 year inverter warranty is a big no no. Insist on 20 years.

Question for you: Do you plan on upgrading to a heat pump anytime soon?

If not, you won’t need a battery with your existing consumption. Your return on investment will be much quicker without a battery by selling your excess PV to the grid, unless your annual consumption increases.

    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

  • Thanks for the price guides and names of brands you see as more reliable. I Hadn’t thought of a heat pump in the short term, but maybe in time. Interesting your no battery comment. The quote suggested shortening the payback time with one! Also considering sneaking a couple of extra panels on the W facing garage; may as well.
    Thanks again.
    any other thoughts out there?

There's nothing wrong with those panels and are from one of the largest manufacturers.

Price is high, but will be as demand is the main reason - you should be able to get the 9.5kWh battery ( same supplier) for 11-12k with the same panels and inverter. Get some more quotes for the same kit from other installers to get a true comparison.

Adding as many panels as possible is always a good thing, but bear in mind how the strings are set up. If the current quote is one string used you'll need probably a minimum of 4-5 panel on the West to enable start up voltage.

    PV total 19.8 kW system:
23 x 420W East/West split over two flat roof areas at 10 degrees inclination.
13 x 390W South spit over two flat roof areas at 5 to 20 degrees inclination.
6 x 390W south wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
7 x 390W West wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
    2 x 5 kW hybrid inverters
    4 x 9.5 kWh batteries (38 kWh total)
