Solar warranties

Options
Hi all ,
Can anybody help me out regarding warranties on solar systems when purchasing property with systems already installed. The property has a system installed by project solar to which I have all paperwork/receipts etc and the FIT is all transferred over and has been running smoothly up until now we’re the system has suddenly just stopped working, having had a look it seems the inverter is completely dead (solar edge 4000) I have tried to restart it following the sequence of switching the dc/ac mains off and back on etc but it’s completely dead and no lights on the display screen.
I have tried contacting project solar with emails and phone but to no avail thus far , my question is will I be covered by the warranty as my belief is the warranty is on the product not the person? Or will project solar fob me off and say the warranty doesn’t pass over to the new homeowner? I had read that project solar charge a fee of around £350 :0 for a technician to take a look at it before deciding what needs doing but can’t find anything about that or warranty transfers on there website.

Hopefully someone in the know or has had to deal with them on here can help me out.

Thank you

I would do the basic things like get a electrician to check all power is on ,any  fuses mcbs are made ect .If the inverter is over 10 years old  it  may be worth just replacing it , there are a few firms who just  do inverter changes for  5 to 6 hundred pounds. There are many mentions of project solar in other threads not  very  good .How old is the system and what warranty is  left on the inverter

Is the warranty still valid? If FIT is being paid then it suggests a system that has been in for a while. My 12 yo inverter failed a few weeks ago, it was out of warranty but only cost £700 for a replacement that has far more features than my old one so if they are charging £350 to look then it might be cheaper to just replace if it's old. But warranty should be on the kit not the person.

I've had a Solar Edge inverter replaced under warranty. Best place to start would be to contact SolarEdge with the serial # etc. to establish if it is still under warranty. If so, they will honour it.

If not, it's time for a replacement. Modern SE inverters are available with a 25 year warranty (a paid for option), one I highly recommend.
    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!

Hi all i appreciate all your speedy reply’s and help , the system has been installed for just coming up 7years so I assume it’s still under warranty (10yrs)?
I have read all the bad reviews on project solar and have the receipt for the installation infront of me so can see the crazy price paid and the breakdown. I just didn’t want to pay them £350 to come have a look and then then say the warranty isn’t valid and charge me for scaffolding/ inverter or whatever they say was needed to correct the fault.
My first port of call was to contact solar edge but it was a chat bot and kept failing.

I’ve been trying to contact solar edge through the website, app, phone to no avail and it’s almost impossible to speak to a human being , the closest I got was speaking to Person in the USA through chat who couldn’t help me as the inverter is in the uk, they did say as it’s only 7yrs old it should be under warranty though. How I get in contact with the uk side of solar edge to report it I do not know.

Can anybody advise me on other brands of inverters I could look at to replace the broken one if worst comes to worst.

    Thank you

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a question on warranty on battery for solar. I have a nine-year-old system for kilowatts 4 kW and have been quoted a Givenergy 9.5 kW battery together with a new inverter, although the old inverter is working perfectly well.  my concern is on the warranty of the battery which is quoted by the installer as being five years, although online it appears to be 10 years. The inverter does have a five year warranty which is extendable to 10 years. Should I just look for another installer who can honour the 10 years quoted online by give energy? I certainly couldn’t justify the cost if I might have to replace the battery after 5 years or so.

Probably better off asking on a new thread but I'd be more concerned about the FIT payments (assuming you get them) for a system that is 9 years old. Adding a battery could invalidate them unless it is configured in the right way.

I have checked the FITS will be unaffected. I just don’t want to go ahead with the battery if I can’t get a 10 year warranty as the figures don’t stack up for a shorter duration.
