Solar repair
Hi , We have had a solar pv system since jan 2014, I have recently noticed that one of the panels has gone down, we have Solar edge inverters so that could be the issue as all the other panels are working normally. We are in Hampshire and I am finding it difficult in finding a local company to come and have a look, our…

Portable Power Stations
I have made reference to my portable power station in other posts but as I believe these are very useful bits of kit for some people I thought a separate thread might be a good idea. In case any has not come across them a PPS consists of a an MPPT charge controller, a lithium battery and an inverter. Their primary use is…

Leased panels - opportunity for battery
We bought a house with leased solar panels. The company that owns the system were impossible to contact during the purchase, so I hold no hope of getting any co-operation from them. They get the FIT payments, but we get use of the solar power for free. The lease prohibits us from making any changes to their system. Am I…

Batteries full, solar production stopped
Just a quick question. While waiting for octopus to process our SEG I noticed for the first time yesterday that the Solar production had dropped from 3kwh to 300w when the house draw was low and the batteries were full. I was expecting it to maintain production and send back to the grid free of charge, Is this normal?

In laws new solar panels confusion
The in laws had free solar panels fitted recently by the local council. All working great and are really happy. The confusion we have is they were told by the electrician that he had set the meter up and added something to it to export to the grid and they would be getting 5p for anything they have exported. They haven’t…

Is a Halogen or Ceramic heating more cost effective to run in a single room?
We are looking at getting a new heating for a bedroom. We have a small oil one in there, but it takes ages to get going, and Halogen and Ceramic heats up almost instantly, so is already more cost effective. Ceramics stay hot for a while after, whereas I read that Halogen if turned off, suddenly lose the heat. I think…

New solar and battery system help
We had a 15 panel 6kW solar system with Solax X1-Hybrid inverter and 6kW Triple Power battery system installed on December. We are on an economy 7 tariff with our energy company, so we charge the battery from the grid at night to enable us to use cheaper energy before the solar is active in the morning and on cloudier days…

Smart meter apps showing solar export, hugo, bright & loop?
Just wondering if anyone with solar had tried one of these smartmeter monitoring apps like hugo, bright and loop? You see them on TV. Do they show your export data from the smart meter? Or do you just get consumption? Thanks

Loop app alternative?
An alternative to loop that I've seen is "Utrack" by uswitch however looking at the play store, the reviews aren't amazing I ask, because then I could use Loop to monitor my own usage, and another app for my parent's house. Loop only allows you to monitor one house

Home Energy Meter
My smart meter IHD has been giving trouble for sometime now and although I have reported it numerous times to my energy provider they clearly have zero interest in replacing it. As such I bought this from Aliexpress. https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzwkEQd Now uptill now I had assumed that my IHD was giving a true reading and…

Sunamp heat battery for hot water?!
I am currently living in an all electric powered property, which at present has a large water immersion storage tank for both hot water taps/ shower and the wet central heating system. To be quite honest, I hate it. It seems so inefficient. I heat up the water during the E7 hours (1am-7am), and it's fine for a hot shower…

Solax advice
Hi - I see a few members here have Solax inverter/battery systems and I wonder if they can help me make a decision? I have 5.7kWp on the roof, perfectly south facing, with a 5.0kW Fronius inverter. I've done some careful modelling of electricity usage and have come to the conclusion that adding a battery is a reasonably…

Energy costs
Assuming that I've calculated everything correctly, assuming I'm producing 4000 kWh a year, and assuming this calculator is correct. Costs are based on projected April 2023 prices https://www.in2gr8tedsolutions.co.uk/index.php Then my costs are as follows : I require typically around 300 kWh a month or 3700 kWh a year.…

Solar Battery - Yes/No?
I'm back with another solar related question, but first of all wanted to thank @Screwdriva for his help in getting my solar installation quote down significantly. The question: What are the factors (or does anyone have a algorithm/calculator) to help decided if I should add battery storage to solar panels? For context the…

Help on solar panel installation location
Hi, We are currently getting quotes for solar and possibly battery on our home. We have lots of roof space but as its made up of two extensions its not a nice simple layout! Internet Routers - Don't turn them off?
As part of an ongoing complaint correspondence I have with Vodafone, I've been told that you can damage your router by turning it off and on. I've been turning off mine to save electricity when not using it. I think it's browbeating on their part. Speeds might be affected, but damage?
