What happens to petrol and electrical items which are junked?
Council recycling centres must take in a lot of thrown out household and garden items that could be repaired such as petrol and electrical powered garden equipment, electrical powered household items (from toasters to dishwashers, computers, hair dryers - you name it!). What happens to such items? I can't help but wonder…

At the top of the range is a Tesla Powerwall solution to be operated in conjunction with the Tesla Energy Plan from Octopus. The Tesla Energy Plan looks too good to be…

Starting the solar journey
4 years ago I got a quote for solar panels, and then Covid happened. Well I bit the bullet for the second time and filled in a form on https://www.theecoexperts.co.uk to say I was interested in being contacted by a quote. I then got a phone call saying this would involve a home visit to speak to partner and myself, and…

Do heat pump cylinders have a COP?
As above. Do they have their own COP alongside ASHPs? Or is the rationale for having it purely based on heating the water using night time storage?

Solar panels and battery. Do these sound OK?
Think we are going with this quote which includes; 14 x 410W JA Solar panels, a Givenergy 3.0 and a 9.5kW Battery Storage system (AC-Coupled) and Growatt 6000TL inverter. It mentions that a G99 is required. Anyone know anything about these parts and anything about a G99? Thanks!

Smart meter and Solar PV system issue
Who's got solar panels AND a smart electricity meter? If so, when your solar PV system is exporting electricity to the Nat Grid does your IHD display a reading? i.e. the IHD always shows a reading and differentiates between drawing electricity from the Nat Grid and exporting energy. Our IHD always just displays '0' (zero)…

Difference in output between two sets of solar panels
Hello, We have had our solar panels for about 2.5 weeks now. We have 9 panels on the front of the house (SE facing) and 6 on the side (SW facing). There is no shading on either set of panels. If I take yesterday as an example, the set of 9 on the front averaged 266W across the day. The set of 6 on the side averaged 55W…

Powerwall 2 Prices
In an idle moment yesterday, I emailed a local company to ask about the cost of a second Powerwall2 (battery only: no Gateway). I was quoted £10500 plus VAT. Was he having a laugh? He offered delivery in March. I should add that I have no interest in getting a second Powerwall 2 at that price.

Ground-mounted solar panels and assorted questions
There's an area of my property about 20 feet from my house which is large enough to place some ground-mounted solar panels. Naturally a small trench would need to be dug to accommodate the cabling, also battery purchase and installation, remove my old oil-fired boiler and replace with electric (if this is a suitable…

Why MCS?
I know I will take some criticism for this but there is nothing I can do after the event. I had a Solar install late last year but it wasn't by an MCS installer(which in hindsight was a mistake but thats another story) So I'm now trying to pursue options to get the Seg tariff but generally they require the MCS certificate,…

Tado vs Netatmo - Octopus
Before being on Octopus, Netatmo was a bit of a no brainer They've seriously improved their UI, and they're a genuinely good competitor to Tado with zero subscription required I've since seen that Tado "works with Octopus" Given that's the case, that shifts things a bit in terms of money saved What would people here go…

Octopus Ready inverter (batteries)
So there are inverters out there that are compatible with Octopus Energy, to take advantage of the very rare times that there's plunge pricing How much energy could you actually pull into say a 3kWh battery, for half an hour, directly from the grid? They do very rarely have say a negative 2.2p rate
