solar quote in sheffield

Hi,

I was hoping someone could review this quote and give their opinion on this system?

I've been in contact with a few solar installers and they seem to be quite high ~8-11k.

If you know of an installer in the Sheffield area I would happily give them a call to see if they can do any better.

I'm not a fan of the givEnergy system as I don't like the battery has to be from givEnergy. When comparing them to my sunsynk quotes it was around double the price for the inverter.

The money-saving part for me was high up on my list with most systems paying them selfs off within 5-8 years.

However, I did notice on the opensolar pages that it assumes that energy prices will continue to rise by 8% each year. which might not be correct if we assume the energy prices will fall over the next couple of years.

I, therefore, wondered if there is a sheet or webpage that can help in my calculation of the ROI and saving on bills each month.

My annual usage is around 5000kwh to 5500kwh I have just started with an electric car so I think that load is skewing my usage higher.

I'm currently only looking at PV as most quotes are coming at or above the cash I have available. I know it will hurt me in the long run but a battery will be a later purchase.

Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't assume that a battery is the answer to all our problems - I certainly don't believe its absence will hurt you in the long run. We don't own a battery and are increasing our PV capacity from 4 -> 7.3 kWh instead.

About your quote, I think it's £500 more than it needs to be and it sounds like that may be a helpful saving for you? The panels (Tenka) are top shelf but I would pick SolarEdge over Sunsynk personally. Here's a similar quote I've just seen:

    12 X Sharp 420W Black panels
    12 X SolarEdge Optimizers
1  X SolarEdge 5kW Inverter with 20 year extended warranty.

    £6200 installed. G99 included.

When the SolarEdge Bi-directional charger hits the market, you may never need a battery and could end up using your EV to power your home/ export. An exciting world just around the corner!

    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!
  • Thanks for that screwdriva,

You have really thrown a spanner in the works by showing me the solar edge bi-directional charging :) I've been desperately waiting for V2X to make its way onto the market.

I've held off on getting an EV charger at this point because only the Ohme is compatible with Octopus Flux. Which - I can't have because I don't get a mobile signal where I live. So I didn't want to commit to a brand (zappi) in the hopes/promise that it is coming.

  • O2 can supply a mobile home network transmitter that plugs into your landline internet, called O2 BoostBox, which will transmit O2 mobile signal without any mobile signal. https://www.o2.co.uk/help/network-coverage-and-international/boostbox-guide

  • Thanks for that hardergamer! - I've not heard of this before. does Ohme use o2 for their mobile service?

  • Yes the Ohme Home Pro with Google or Apple Smart APP will work with all UK networks, but you may need to check with Ohme which mobile phones will work, as I know my old S8 would not work with their APP so I had to replace my phone for a newer Samsung A32 5G to get it to work.
