Rechargeable pr48 (heating aid) battery charger?
So I've got an NHS hearing aid, and the batteries last like a week or two if I'm lucky They've also given me a load of battery cells. I can "order" new batteries at any time by emailing them, but I don't like the idea of any kind of disposable battery. It's why everything that uses batteries in my house uses rechargeable…

Non standard roof/optimizers
Hi all. In the final stages of solar quotes. Our roof has an annoying layout. As per the image we're looking at distributing panels across the 4 aspects south/east/west. I assumed the S/W and S/E would each have their own string, job done. The prospective installers believe optimisers are required because 'all the panels…

[No longer] Going for a Givenergy 8.2 kWh AC Coupled battery
With the crazy prices, I've done my man-maths, made a spreadsheet, and decided to get a Givenergy 8.2kwh AC coupled battery installed. If anyone has this system and wants to share their thoughts before I commit, please chime in! The price is a little under £4k from a company called CRC Electrical and Renewables. If anyone…

Mixergy's new heat pump hot water cylinder (iHP)
Looks like a no brainer for those using oil to heat hot water. Once the noise levels and ducting requirements become clearer, perhaps it will be a more mainstream product? https://mixergy.co.uk/news-and-insights/introducing-mixergys-new-award-winning-heat-pump-cylinder-the-ihp/

Considering Solar
Good Afternoon I'm just starting to look into getting solar and wondered if anyone could recommend installers in the Northamptonshire area please? Some very useful solar related threads on this forum by the way!

Portable batteries worth considering?
In my mind the answer is no but just wanted to confirm this. If I was to buy a portable power station for my fish tank, and have it charge when I only had excess solar, low import or the battery reaches 10% would the savings actually be worthwhile or is it essentially pointless? The fishtank uses a little over 1kwh a day.

Solaredge with battery
Hello, Has anyone else out there got a SE inverter and the SE energy bank ? I was trying to look at the generation but the numbers don't add up and was wondering if it was my setup or SE not being able to produce the right numbers. For example. On my app it tells me I have generated 27 kwh so far this month but if I addup…

Battery only vs alternatives
Hi As a reasonably heavy electric user with an awkward (south, east and west facing) roof and no pv etc, I've long had the opinion that a battery only install could be the best solution for us. The 13.5kwh of a givenergy AIO would cover 1 days usage most days charged up from IO or Agile depending when we get on the EV…

How do you guys keep track of ROI on your panels / battery?
I wanted to keep track of how much money I'm saving by having solar panels and a battery, was going to just create a spreadsheet with monthly data but I was wondering if there is an easier way to track the savings? Or if there's a prebuilt spreadsheet anywhere? Thanks!

Would I really need an EV Home Charger?
I am thinking about buying an EV and wondering why I would need a Home Charger. There's already a pair of external sockets on the outside wall of my garage so I could plug an electric car into one of those and charge at maybe 3 kW. A Home Charger would give me 7 kW. If I average 150 miles a week and can get a modest 3…

Weird Reading on my Smart Meter Home Display
At about 5.00 to 5.15 pm or thereabouts my home display shoots up to 0.6kw for energy used on the "now" setting. See photo below. I don't understand why as all that is on is a few LED lights, couple of laptops, one fridge and one freezer and normally it is about 10 watts (when no other appliances on like oven, air fryer,…

Energy Efficient Appliances: Upgrading to A rated white goods
In our quest to minimize our household consumption, we have replaced our decrepid old CDA SC222 A rated electric oven for a AEG BPE948730M A++ rated unit (35% off I might add). The hope would be to minimize grid drawn consumption over the life of the appliance. That said, we couldn't find an apples to apples comparable…

Electric car: does the "B" setting improve economy?
At present I have a hybrid car. This has a "B" gear which, in my understanding, effectively gives me engine breaking, I only use it when going down a very steep hill. I'm about to get an electric car and this has a "B" setting which supposedly gives you more regenerative breaking. I can't figure this out, why would you…

solar quote in sheffield
Hi, I was hoping someone could review this quote and give their opinion on this system? I've been in contact with a few solar installers and they seem to be quite high ~8-11k. If you know of an installer in the Sheffield area I would happily give them a call to see if they can do any better. I'm not a fan of the givEnergy…

Octopus Energy tariffs??
We now have solar panels and a battery, and looking at a tariff that will allow us to "sell" excess energy to our provider, and top up our battery over winder with lower price electricity. Having been on the Octopus website I am completely confused about which tariff does this?? Help!
