Cost of a battery add on to pv?
I have a 2.5kw split over 2 roofs 4 and 2 panels. I'm using around 25% of what I generate. I have a inverter which you can't install batteries too. I have 2 options replace the inverter and install batteries to that in the loft, which I don't like the idea off. Or install another inverter with battery batteries under my…

Trashnothing..??
I've only recently come across this site and I'm somewhat perplexed. The hype seems to insist that it gathers together ads from both Freecycle and Freegle... and yet a cursory investigation of my local scene shows that the vast majority of ads from those two sources don't make it onto Trashnothing... and a whole load of…

Air Con/Heating
Hi we're looking to install AC into 1 room, and I gather some units can also function as a Heat Pump in winter. I've contacted local suppliers for quotes, but does anyone have an idea of costs and recommendations on what units to go for? Thanks LS

Solar Panel advice
Hi Guys. I'm in the early stages of looking into getting some Solar Panels. We have a detached house with 2 South East Facing Roofs on the house itself and a detached extra-deep (roughly 2.5 car lengths) Garage with a South Facing Roof, albeit the South-facing side of the roof faces towards our neighbours and the garage…

Hi all, We have had a quote from home smart energy through solar together and wondered if anybody else has had any dealings with them? Thank you Martin

Green Central Heating Boiler/Hydrogen Boiler/Air Source Heat Pump - which one and how
I had a quote from British Gas for a Worcester Greenstar regular CH boiler. I have a month to make up my mind about whether I buy it from them. I am assured in writing it is more efficient than my Potterton which is 20 years old and will not last forever and it is anyway inefficient. The total cost is £3,599. I would…

Solar & Battery Install Remote From House
Hi, We didn't look at solar originally as we wouldn't qualify for FIT, however now prices look as if could easily be cost effective. I'm awaiting some opinions an quotes, but wondered if there are any issues with our specific electrical layout. The panels would go onto a metal Dutch barn with a huge S facing (190 Deg to be…

Advice on quoted inverter size 3.6kw
Starting getting some quotes as moving into a new place and want solar. My current consumption is 4500 kWh ( no EV as yet but wife works from home hence washing machine etc always generally on). One quote is 10 x 450 panels but the inverter is the smallest: solar Growatt 3.6kw inverter With a growatt 6.5KW battery. -- Plan…

Thoughts on cost and equipment for solar
Hi As per my post ref Inverter, I have had 3 quotes, all rough as not moved in yet. 2 companies are local and both I know in some ways. Supplier 1:, 13 x 410KW (Sharp), Fox ox Hybrid ESS inverter 5.33KWh and 5 KWh Fox battery, iboost, manual change over (if we get a powercut) bird protection: £12k give or take. Like the…

Which is the best solar intelligent immersion switch
I read up on this a 5 years ago, and couldn't decide between an iboost+ and SolarImmersion. There must be better ones on the market, and reliability should be more proven. What is the current best buy, and where are they cheapest? (google search brings back very outdated posts/reviews). I have a 6.9KW system, Megaflo CL170…

Solar diverter - flawed return on investment calculations
I've now had my solar panels installed for over 4 years and so I thought it would be a good point to see how the return on investment projections provided by the installer were measuring up to reality. I was expecting the sums to reveal that I was ahead of the projection given the recent increase in electricity prices.…

Solar Panel Help
Hi, I'm getting an Electric car through work and they
are effectively giving me £1200 a year to cover the cost of electricity to
charge the car. In my mind if i can generate this electricity myself through
solar panels then this can be used to bring down the break even time for a
solar panel / battery system. I’m not sure…

Octopus outgoing agile v fixed
I am currently on octopus outgoing agile - i signed up to this before they increased fixed to 15p/kwh Now it has increased I feel I would be better off on this tariff. I only managed to get this all sorted out in about September so wasn't able to benefit from the solar panels in the summer? I know noone knows for sure but…

Outgoing Octopus
We have solar panels, installed 10/10/2011, we have our MCS certificate and have been receiving FIT payments from EDF who were our suppliers at the time , with payment for 50% deemed export. Last November we had SMETS 2 Smart meters installed, and recently moved our supplier to Octopus. We would like to move our export to…

My GEMS Dream House: 9.2 kW PV + 5kW A-W Heat Pump
Thought I'd share what is probably the best residence I've had the pleasure of helping out with. EnerPHit retrofitted detached house with 9.2 kW of Sharp 400W panels (w/ optimizers across 3 aspects) paired to a three phase 8kW SolarEdge inverter. On the hot water and heating front, a 5kW Vaillant Air Source Heat Pump will…

Best Octopus plan for Solar PV only?
I’ve recently had a 4.7kw SEE/WSW arrays installed, with no battery or hot water diverter. Getting an EV (arrives November sort of time). Any other solar only people out there with advice on best Octopus plans? Would Flux be worth it? Annually we use around 2.6kw (more when EV arrives), I think the array should generate…

Solar Panels and Battery Installation Date - switching to Octopus
Good morning helpful people We have a date of July 6th for our solar panels and battery installation. We are currently with Scottish Power on a fix which ends 30 June 2023. We have a obsolete smart meter (SMETS1), it has never had the software upgrade and I gave up asking SP and checking with DCC. I thought I would start…

Zappi & Harvi Price
Morning What should I be expecting to pay for a zappi & Harvi to be installed? Also what does the Harvi part do,, really impressed with my solar installation this march, but on good days I can be exporting over 30kwh, not so bad on flux. But on quick calculations I think that I could almost have free fuel all year with my…

Rainwater harvesting + recycling?
I came across this https://smartwatermagazine.com/blogs/graham-mann/new-buildings-turkey-feature-rainwater-harvesting-systems And I was wondering if anyone in the UK has done similar? That appears to be forced on new builds in Turkey but over here it's obviously still voluntary. It'd be nice to not have to use fresh water…
