Octopus Energy & FIT payments
I seem to have run in to a spot of bother with my present FIT 'agent', Octopus Energy. It seems to me that energy suppliers don't really like the hassle of having to handle FIT payments, something that doesn't earn them much revenue I suspect. So you don't get 'great service' from them if all they do is process FIT…

solar panels and octopus
Hi all, I'm new to the solar game and i am currently on an existing fixed with Scottish Power on 24p per KW. It is up for renewal later this year. I have 4050 kw solar panels (10 of them) and a 9.5 KW Givenergy battery. We have an ASHP for our heating and no electric car. Am I best changing to Octopus Flex?

Anyone heard of powerpod?
This is rather cheap considering they offer a 50% discount if you order a year ahead, but what protection do you get if they go bust before then? Chargebacks are surely only valid for a finite amount of time?…

New Battery and Solis Inverter / Cloud Newbie questions!
Sorry if these are obvious but I need to get my head round a few things. I had a battery and Solis inverter added to my solar panels and Solis inverter yesterday at around 3.30pm. The panels have been installed for 7 years. The datalogger seems to be connected fine (although I am seeing datalogger and Inverter devices) and…

Extra solar battery
I'm new to this site and I'm after some advice please. Our current situation is this. We have 10 375w solar panels on a south facing roof, coupled with a 3.2 kwh greenlinx battery. We are on the Octopus flux tariff, and currently we run the washing machine and dishwasher in the cheap period through the night, and charge…

Octopus/smart meter/exporting electricity
Octopus aren't replying to emails & facebook contact also unhelpful. Briefly: Switched to Octopus in April 2021 Smart meter installed April 2022 Solar panels installed Aug 2022 Request to export got a bit muddled as installer hadn't sent a specific document required by DNO so Octopus could not obtain export MPAN. All…

Reducing the baseload
It seems that I'm using around 150-200w/hr doing absolutely nothing other than the general running of the house. That's 3.6 KwH/day not actively used as such What can I do to reduce the base load? I've noticed that I'm averaging around say 9kWh/day for everything. It'd then be nice to reduce that, especially if it means I…

Solar install Tuesday, not sure what to do about supplier
We are currently on SVR with EDF on a new smart meter installed in April with a £100 credit incentive from EDF to install. Friday 4.55pm I received a phone call from the solar company we were expecting to install our solar system at the start of next month. Can they come and do it on Tuesday as they'd had a cancellation. I…

The requirement for refrigerants that very quickly dissipate
This is a fairly old article but realistically the points still stand https://theecologist.org/2010/oct/08/why-eco-friendly-heat-pumps-increase-not-reduce-your-carbon-footprint Heat pumps are touted as the more environmentally friendly alternative to gas or to condenser tumble dryers The biggy however, like with AC, is the…

FIT and panel replacement
Hi all I have a 2.02 kWh install from 2011 (9 x 225W Polycrystalline) which came with the house when we purchased in 2015. A neighbour has recently removed a large tree from their garden which was shading the install, so I have the opportunity now to make better use of this. Historically this has only generated 1207kWh per…

New Build Solar Install Questions
Hello I have just moved into a new-build house that has 5 Viridian panels (1.67kW) and Solis 4G Mini inverter. I had a couple of questions as I'm new to this. 1. For the Solis inverter, I've been looking at setting up SolisCloud to monitor but can't see a way of adding the actual inverter, the installer is incommunicado -…

Non-domestic export tariffs?
I’m working with my church to help reduce its carbon footprint and part of that is looking at fitting 6kW of panels on a S facing roof. Does anyone know what export tariffs are available to businesses/charities? Outgoing Fixed? I assume Flux is only domestic but I’ll check the T&C’s. I’m not easily finding the info on…

How low can you go...Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Whatever... electricity grid import
It has been the first week of the year when I have had little or no import from the grid so I am creating this thread so we can brag about how little energy we import in a week. I was surprised at this low figure as we were not deliberately time shifting energy usage. It has been a normal week with cooking, baking ,…

The importance of good design
I've seen the typical memes over the past few days given our summers are getting too hot now where people talk about how our houses are built primarily to retain heat and Americans getting confused as to why we don't have AC even if only used temporarily I was reminded of what a PassivHaus architect said. With good design…

Most cost effective way to add battery storage?
I have solar PV with a standard inverter in the loft, it's on a 16a circuit of its own, I have no more spare ways in my internal CU but I do have spares in my outdoor CU which has my car charger on. If I wanted to add battery storage in the most cost effective way to do so?
