Barclays Greener Home Reward
Many mortgage companies are doing some kind of grant or borrowing for eco improvements. However the Barclays one is actually pretty decent: https://www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/greener-home-reward/ It's £2000 towards a heat pump, or £1000 towards solar, or lesser payments towards insulation etc. If you are a Barclays…

Solar Together and retrofit batteries
Solar Together has finally come to Cheshire and I signed up to see what was being offered for retrofit batteries. As the design is based on very basic questions, the first step is to work out whether the design is right for me (step 2 is the price). I have been offered 3kWh, 6kWh, 9kWh or 12.1kWh Growatt batteries &…

Switch Energy
Not a government company. A separate company that claim back their subbed out work to the energy companies. Very suspicious. They even offered me £1k on completion of ASHP!

How much does DNO approval cost / is it worth it for my system
Been quoted 8.5k for 6.4kW of panels over a couple of roof elevations solaredge 3.68kW inverter solar immersion heater thingy bird barrier Now I know that the panels are overspecced but believe this is due to two things, they are on different facing roofs and will degrade over time . But I was wondering if its worth…

Battery maximum output
My battery, which has a 6.5 kWh capacity (LG RESU6.5), seems to have a maximum output of about 2.67 kW. I'm not sure if this limit is set by the battery or by the inverter but it's a bit irritating because it means even if the battery is fully charged I cannot boil a 3 kW kettle without importing some electricity. I don't…

Batteries that support "islanding" during power cuts
Hi, I believe Tesla batteries can provide backup power during a power cut. I'm not sure if that also means it would keep the solar inverter running as well. Do any other battery brands give this backup function? Thanks.

Rechargeable pr48 (heating aid) battery charger?
So I've got an NHS hearing aid, and the batteries last like a week or two if I'm lucky They've also given me a load of battery cells. I can "order" new batteries at any time by emailing them, but I don't like the idea of any kind of disposable battery. It's why everything that uses batteries in my house uses rechargeable…

Non standard roof/optimizers
Hi all. In the final stages of solar quotes. Our roof has an annoying layout. As per the image we're looking at distributing panels across the 4 aspects south/east/west. I assumed the S/W and S/E would each have their own string, job done. The prospective installers believe optimisers are required because 'all the panels…

Mixergy's new heat pump hot water cylinder (iHP)
Looks like a no brainer for those using oil to heat hot water. Once the noise levels and ducting requirements become clearer, perhaps it will be a more mainstream product? https://mixergy.co.uk/news-and-insights/introducing-mixergys-new-award-winning-heat-pump-cylinder-the-ihp/
