EON Solar Panels Quote. Is this a good deal?

Eon have offered me (interest free) 12 solar panels (5.22 kWp) at a cost of £7000.

They have also offered me 5.1kWp batter for a further £3480 making a total of £10,480.

We use approx. 3400kw during the day and 6800kw at night as we do washing, dishwasher etc then.

Don’t know anything about Solar so wondered if some kind soul could advise if this looks like a good deal. I will ofcourse get other quotes.

Many thanks in advance.

Typically, utility companies rarely offer a competitive PV installation, in terms of 1) price 2) quality of brands 3) warranty duration ( take a close look at the brands of panel/ inverter on offer in your quote)

As an example, £6200 would get you:

    12 X Sharp 425W black panels (25/30 Year Guarantee)
    12 X SolarEdge optimizers (25 year warranty)
      1 X SolarEdge 5kW inverter (20 year warranty)

G99 and Bird netting included. You could add on a 6.5kW battery for £3.5K or a 9.6kW GivEnergy battery for £4.8K. I suspect the above example offers better brands, longer warranties at a lower £ cost, and hope it helps steer you towards the right type of installer!

    Thank you so much Screwdriva.

Could you help with a couple of further question please

Do they effect the value of your property?

Do they make selling your house more difficult?

Are there any downsides you are aware of?

Martin Lewis suggest that batteries could add from 5 to 13 years extra payback. What are your views on batteries.

Are there any suppliers you can recommend in the Cornwall area?

I realise Im asking a lot but would be verty grateful if you could help with any of the above.

    Many thanks in advance

    Lulu

No worries, Lulu. I'm sure others will have views as well but here are mine:

    1) Hard to say about property values conclusively but I do believe that this report (arguably with a bias) highlights a positive effect to property prices. In my anecdotal experience, a well installed PV solution does appears to help with resale price and speed of sale, especially if the EPC score of A has been achieved.

    2) No they don't make selling more difficult in my experience unless you do not have the required documentation to show that the PV installation is owned by the seller. Any reputed MCS/ HIES registered seller will provide these.

    3) I view Solar as one of the few technologies in life that offer a win for the homeowner, the economy, the nation and the ecology. I always advocate buying quality brands of components with really long warranties to minimize the need for repair based expenses in the future.

    4) With total annual household consumption over ~4000 kWh per year, a battery can help improve payback and alleviate inconvenience experienced from blackouts. Helps if you have a garage or external wall they can be mounted on. The only batteries I recommend are Givenergy, Tesla or the MyEnergi Libbi
