Octopus have removed the need for a Solar PV installation to be carried out by an MCS-certified installer. It now reads as below. So anyone out there who’s been adrift of a decent rate then now’s the time to switch!

Updated: new T&C’s now live on their website https://octopus.energy/policies/export-tariffs-terms-conditions/

It seems from comments on YT that some DNO's are still saying they need a MCS installer to look over DIY systems before they will approve, and Octopus still want the DNO approval?, So probably best to call the DNO to check first.

  • Whilst Octopus have changed their terms and conditions, it is impossible to access anything other than their 4p per kwh tariff without an MCS certificate. You can put your name down on a waiting list but they do not guarantee acceptance and want to charge £250. This is madness in my opinion. If your installation is good enough to export to the grid on one tariff it is good enough to export on the higher 15p per kwh tariff. I have an EIC certificate for the work done, is this not worth the paper it is written on? Would welcome your thoughts.

People have gone through the process and are on IO with 15p export...
  • Thanks Meatballs. But what process did they use? All octopus tell me is I can apply to a waiting list for the SEG tariff of 4p per kwh and they will charge me £250 with no guarantee of being accepted.
I need to know exactly what I need to do.

Are you with Octopus already, for your own electricity consumption?
