Neglected garden! Help!
Hi all, I’m a new home owner, my rear garden is a reasonable size but hasn’t had any work for a long time! There’s a gravel area at the bottom with a shed that’s seen better days. There’s old furniture down there as well from the previous owner, it can’t be rescued and has to be scrapped. I already rescued a dining table…

Planting seeds indoors
In an effort to be frugal, I am thinking that instead of buying flower plants for the garden this year, I shall buy seeds and start them off indoors. Am I too late for this now? I have read that they should be planted indoors for six weeks before planting outside. Also, my garden is very shady and small. As well as this, I…

Robot Mower
Does anyone here have any experience of automatic robot mowers? We are considering one for our fairly large garden (with sloping areas). We have had a local business complete a survey and give a quote. Just looking for any helpful information from anyone who has experience.

Moving saplings
Hello MSE-ers, I'm new to this area of the board! More of an advice question than moneysaving - I live in a city centre terrace in Birmingham with a small yard/garden, and some saplings (pretty sure they're horse chestnuts) have started to grow in my garden, I can't keep them as they'll grow far too big for the area and…

Recommend a Plant/bush as windbreak
I am looking for a plant/bush that I can use as a hedge to provide privacy and windbreak for my veg garden. I have a chicken wire fence around the plot but it is very exposed and on a slope down to the road so I would like an additional windbreak and also a bit of privacy from the road. Whatever I plant would be on a windy…

Pollarded oak tree
Hello, We had to have an oak tree in our garden heavily pollarded in late summer last year because a large bough fell down (weak branch union). Now the tree has leaf buds but they haven't started opening yet, and I've noticed other oak trees in the area are starting to come out in leaf. I'm wondering if it's died?

Issue with Daffs
I bought a large pot of spent daffodils last April from my local garden centre. I was expecting a beautiful pot of golden daffodils earlier this year but instead all I got was one golden daffodil and a load of long green leaves! Any idea what went wrong?

How to treat wood for planters
I want to build a few planters for some strawberry plants. I’m concerned about chemicals leaching into the soil and into the berries. Originally I was just going to use some redwood timber from Wickes. But what could I use to preserve it and keep it looking good?

Log Cabin / Summerhouse
First post and a new thread, hope you all don't mind. Looking to buy a log cabin, 3m x 2.5m, want it to be decent construction, daughter wants to put a Jacuzzi thing in it, doing the paved base myself. Looked online and there seems to be a lot of untrustworthy suppliers / installers, budget around 2k - 3k for cabin with…

Leylandii alternative
My neighbours have chopped some lovely trees in their garden down which gave us shade and privacy. I want to put something in their place fast growing. If I went for leylandii I would keep them trimmed to a reasonable 3 or 4m once they grew, but what else could I grow that reaches that sort of height and coverage?

Chitting potatoes
I put some potatoes out to chit a couple of weeks ago in a sunny cool spot - the sprouts are now only about 5mm long - should I wait till they grow longer or just plant them now?

Greenhouse recommendations
Can any you recommend a greenhouse supplier, either a nationwide company or one local to the Harrogate / Leeds area? Do most suppliers deliver flat packed for you to build yourself? I assume some oval suppliers may offer a build service. Any general greenhouse advice appreciated as we’ve not had one before.

Yellowing Grass on 2 year old lawn
Hi I completely dug over and laid to lawn a jungle of a garden when we moved in. This was over 2 years ago now. The work involved masses of chopping back and removing overgrown bushes, trees and borders and levelling the area by scraping the soil back from the high point to the low point. It was then prepared properly and…

Bamboo
A neighbour has very kindly planted bamboo in the ground on the far side of her garden to me which is a house width wide. After taking up some gravel from next to her fence on my side. Bamboo has started to shoot up. So the roots have grown from the far side of her garden and under her patio on to my property. I now know…
