We feed the birds In the garden sunflower hearts and peanuts (the squirrel family in the trees also love peanuts) so we are buying in bulk at present. It just dawned on me though, how long can peanuts be kept in plastic containers (with lids) before they go off?

It’s much cheaper to buy a large 25kg bag, but not sure how long they’re good for?

I guess it depends on the initial freshness of the stock, and how quickly the [STRIKE]birds[/STRIKE] squirrels are getting through it. These guys seem to be recommending approx three months

We sell peanuts etc (plus sneak a few for our own birds,) and store them in a dry room. They last easily 3 months, the ones for sale are in a lidded dustbin and show no signs of deterioration. The only problems we have had are rodents eating through the plastic container.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
