Recommendations for a potted plant for a north facing patio in the UK?
I'm a newbie when it comes to gardening. Can anyone recommend any plants to keep potted on a north facing patio in the UK? There isn't a huge amount of sunlight apart from around midday during the spring/summer months. I was thinking of lavender or would that be a bad idea?

Do I line raised beds?
We are planning 2 raised beds, built either from sleepers or even scaffold boards on their sides, stacked 3 high and strengthened internally. Would i need to line them inside with a thick liner, and holes at the bottom for drainage?

Seedling identification please
So I committed the cardinal sin of not labelling my seed trays because I was confident that I wouldn't forget what the seeds were. 🤣They are probably hardy perennial flowering plants but that's as much as I can remember. I didn't buy them so I don't even have an order receipt , they came free with an order that I placed…

Greenhouse Sales
I want a new greenhouse this year or poss next and was wondering whether to wait until the autumn. Does anybody know whether sale prices for greenhouses are worth waiting for? I mean, I know they’ll reduce them a bit but 5% or 25% is a big difference. Would welcome any advice. Thanks.

No blossom on Flowering Cherry
Are there any tree experts on here. I have a well established flowering cherry in my garden that for years has given glorious spring blossom followed by thick foliage but last spring the blossom was a bit sparse and the resulting leaves were also quite sparse and stunted throughout the year. It looks like this season is…

Netting for vegetable bed?
Hi, I have a raised vegetable bed. I have built a frame and plan to cover with netting to avoid any unwanted pests (birds, slugs, snails, caterpillars, flies etc), or cats using it as a giant litter tray! There seem to be a lot of different types of netting and size of holes in the netting. Can anyone recommend which…

Houseplant help
I have some "pet" houseplants but I'm a beginner in how to look after them. Yes, I am a sad plant parent and I have named my plants  Jethro, my spider plant, and Pablo my Flamingo plant live quite happily on the living room windowsill. I read somewhere that they don't like wet soil so I keep their soil just damp…

Help! What's happening to my precious plum tree?
Went out to look to see if I've got any fruit setting only to see - not only very few plums (3) but something is wrong with the tree itself. It's a Dunster Plum, should be small size, planted 2yrs ago as bare root and it's thrived. First year 2-3lbs of plums. Last year none but all leaves covered in plum aphids like a mat…

Taking cuttings from Wallflowers
I've got 3 magnificent wallflowers about 2ft spread with wonderful scent. Not perennials as far as I know. Purloined from a friend who'd grown them for a year and gave them to me when she dug up her 'bedding' again. Didn't expect them to take.I can't find wallflowers in any garden centre or nursery. All gone. So someone…

Avocado
I’m quite proud of having germinated an avocado seed. The result is now nearly 60cm high in a 21cm pot. I suspect the pot is too small, any idea what size pot I should put it in? It’s also getting too big for my windowsill. How tender are avocado trees? Could I put it out in my front garden which is very warm, south,…

Any idea what this is, please?
I was given some flowers yesterday, as a gift, they are beautiful, and they contain a flower that I have never seen before. I love unusual things and would love to know what it is The head is shaped similar to a tulip but the ‘petals’ are smooth, almost waxy, with fluffy purple tips. The head is quite large, around 5…

Will my hedge grow back?
The council have done a horrible hack job on my hedge (it's my property, not council owned). It's a hedge that shields my front garden from a public path, so it's particularly annoying. I've posted some images below, is it feasible that it will grow back? They cut it at the start of March. You can see a comparison to how…

Hi I have flower beds covered in weeds. I sprayed with roundup and they are very slowly dying. Can I just cover it with fresh compost and plant my new flowers in it or do I really need to pull out the dying weeds and turn over the soil? Thank you!

Is this a hollyhock?
When we first moved in I discovered we had inherited a beautiful peach coloured hollyhock. Unfortuantely, last spring I dug it out by mistake. Today I've spotted this in the lawn near the spot where the previous hollyhock was, have I got lucky here?

Crop Rotation
Hello Folks, can you please help me with a question concerning crop rotation. I have 2 raised beds in which to grow crops.
