  • I've had a Greenworks mower for a couple of years. So much better than using electric leads. It has two batteries which charge very quickly. I wouldn't go back.
  • Thanks for the comments. Sorry... have been away. Looks like these are a good option.

    This was the key question.
I watched my neighbour strimming her grass edges yesterday with a battery strimmer of reasonable pedigree. She told me  her first one burned-out and was replaced under guarantee, all of which I could understand, given the tough conditions. I watched for a while and decided that particular battery tool was no use to me. My neighbour has a disability and a good reason for choosing a light  option, but I'd feel I had a disability too if I had to use it!
That's not to say all battery tools are useless, just that you need to pick the correct one for the work you're doing. My battery chainsaw (not cheap at £500+) is brilliant, but for static sawing up logs I go over to mains power. Similarly, the battery hedge-trimmer is lovely on yew, box and even well-trimmed beech, but on rougher hedges, attended to intermittently, it's mains power every time.
  • Well, this is just a case of modest, suburban front and rear lawns. We're not talking a golf course.
