What’s this bird of Prey in my Garden?
Hi guys I know this post is not money saving, and one can’t really say it is gardening related, so please remove this thread if not allowed. Woke up this morning to find Pigeon feathers all over the grass in the back Garden. Went back on the camera and saw a video of this huge bird with a Pigeon in its claws. At the start…

Identification Help
Hoping some of you very knowledgeable can help. I bought a packet of Wild Garlic seeds recently & from a liberal sprinkling, these are the only things growing. I think they’re both varieties of Goosefoot which is not what I wanted. They’re both about 6” tall but the 2nd is much bushier. Can anyone confirm please.

What can I use to fill huge hole Garden?
Hello All, I would like to get some advice from folks on here. I have what was an old pond/roman bathing pool in my garden. To give some context it's 230cm (L) x 150cm (w) and approx 100cm deep. I would like to get rid of this and basically either turf or grow grass over it. I've started the demolition process but would…

Cypress trees and planters
We are landscaping our garden. We have built breeze block planters against a 6ft breeze block wall, the planters are 30 cm in diameter. I'm looking for low maintenance plants with a Mediterranean feel. Would a few Cypress trees be ok in this long planter? If not does anyone have any other suggestions? That are evergreen…

Green roof substrate
I've built a gazebo to act as a barbeque shelter - believe it or not, it's been known to rain when I grill - and am going to put a green roof on top. I'd rather not pay for the specialist firms' own blend, as I'm hoping it's just a question of mixing some aggregate with compost - but can anyone share a recipe for the…

What to do with unwanted turf
I’m looking to create a flower bed by lifting the existing grass. It’ll be around 9m2 so too much for the brown bin but not worth getting a skip. Do I just do loads of tip runs? Or is there a way to dry it out to be lighter? I don’t fancy the smothering method as would like to plant in the autumn. Any ideas?

Long handled shears
Back problems make it difficult to bend down to trim the lawn edges so I'm looking at long handled shears. Most cut either vertically or horizontally. I need to cut both ways and wonder if there are any that can be swapped between the two. Alternatively a fixed 45 degree setting would be a suitable compromise. Am I looking…

Removing large gravel and making a lawn area on a budget, advice wanted please!
I recently moved into a new house, and my garden consists of a slabbed area, along with an area of large gravel (not sure of the proper name!) What I'd like to do is remove the gravel and get rid, and replace with some turf to make a lawn area with a border, and grow some non-specific flowers/plants that would be fairly…

Unusual soft fruit plants
Hi everyone We went to our local garden centre yesterday. Utterly gorgeous but expensive. They had some unusual soft fruit such as Jostaberry, Wineberry and Honeyberry as well as Tayberry and Loganberry. Has anyone tried growing these? Our raspberries and blackcurrants are grown in giant pots as we have no suitable bits of…

Fuchsia Delta Sara.
Hello, my sister received this Fuchsia Delta Sara last year from a friend. It was in a 3L pot, but unfortunately, this year it's not performing as well as it did last year with the lovely blue flowers. I've told her to bring it around to my house so I can try and save it for her. Can you give me any advice, please?

Best place to get compost and plants from online?
I used to get from Wilkos but with that gone I need to order a few bags of compost, grobags and some plants (mainly geraniums and tomatoes to cheer the place up). Where's the best place online that can deliver (am within M25 in London) - I don't drive. I've heard not good things about the B&Q compost so would rather not…

Malus Red Jade: Greenfly problem on the new green shoots
I have a 20 year old Malus Red Jade. I have pruned it over the years to stop the weeping effect. I do this because the long trailing weeping branches stop the sunlight getting to my peonies in early spring. So I have ended up with a more horizontal branch structure coming out of the top of the tree. My question is…

What plants for a gothic garden
Hi, I'm planning on making a gothic garden so looking for recommendation of plants (preferably perennials). I want something that's either got dark leaves or black, very dark purple/blue/red flowers. The garden gets sun from midday to about 5pm at this time of the year. At the moment my ideas are: hollyhock jet black…

Researchers please. Mysteryish plum
So part of my garden is a badger run with trees from the neighbouring club hanging over it. One of the trees Prunus Nigra of some variety produces real plums and I've researched but it keeps giving me 'cherry plum' and nothing like the size of these. That's more what I've seen before and on my own Prunus Nigra. I'm getting…
