I have just got a new hedge trimmer. It comes with the advice to regularly use their very expensive resin solvent. I am seeking cheaper alternatives.

I considered WD40 or GT85. I don't know if either or suitable or the difference between the two.

Advice and suggestions would be appreciated please to help keep the blades running smoothly and dirt/resin free for effective cutting rather than the manufacturers very expensive spray. Thank you

    Not WD40.

I have a very old hedgetrimmer that my Dad used to own. If it came with any instructions they are lost in the mists of time.

I use a spray grease that I think was designed for motorcycle chains. Seems to work ok.

The resin (tree sap) is the issue rather than just lubrication.  That needs removal via solvents and then lubrication (Stihl's product mentions graphite in amongst other things),

WD40 comes in a variety of variants so is a brand rather than a specific product.  So one or two might be more suitable than others.
