Poorly Plum?

Hi, I planted 2 x Victoria Plums in March, one from a Garden Centre & one from Morrisons.  The one from Morrisons (which was bone dry) when I lifted it out after soaking came out as a bare root.

Anyway the one from Morrisons hasn't done anything, not a leaf on it and Im worried it is dead but when I scratched a little bark off it was green underneath.

Any thoughts please?

If there is green wood under the bark it will get established over the next year and you will probably see leaves forming in a few weeks.  Keep it watered and give it a feed, seaweed extract is good. Hopefully you will see some blossom next Spring.

Looks almost the same as a £5 apple tree that I bought from Tescos.
It was very dried out and remained just like yours for the summer while there was green under the bark.

This year it's struggling to produce leaves but blossom, poor thing, maybe next year. Its been frantically trying to produce roots all this time.

So it will survive, if you have the patience :)

Put some bonemeal or BFB around it in autumn to encourage root growth which happens more then.

Planted a Victoria Plum that I picked up in a moment of madness some five years ago from Lidl. First year, it didn't really do much. Plenty of leaves in subsequent years. Even had a flower on it last year, but no fruit. This year, have quite a few flowers on it, but I'm not counting chickens just yet. If I'm lucky, might get a couple of fruits this year.
