How To Get Rid Of A Mystery Bush

I've taken over management of my Dads house, and he's allowed 2 of these random plants to grow in places where there should be no plants. We live not far from the countryside, but we've never had actual bushes pop up in the garden.

Can anyone recommend the best way to remove them or what they are?  If they have deep roots, I'd rather not rip chunks out of the garden.

No that's just an ornamental grass -shouldn't be difficult to dig up

Why should there be no plants in a border?

Anyway, it's just grass as above, won't take much to get it out

5 minutes with a garden fork will move that.

Not a fan of ornamental grasses myself but many are. You'll probably find a local church or organisation having a plant sale if you want to put it in a pot and donate it

Looks like one of the Blue grasses that has been left and not had the annual dead leaves taken off.
Pretty when they're tended and don't get any bigger.
Now it's been dried out too.
But yes, get a fork under and wiggle the fork to loosen the roots,

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

That's no mystery. It looks like Carex testacea. Nearly £20 from the RHS:

It might put up some resistance, but it's hardly a Miscanthus. Now, one of those would be a challenge! >:)

It's meant to be a grass lawn area, but my father dumped a load of rubbish on it and let weeds grow. The other one is encroaching on the path in front of the house.  Neither of them were planted, so I consider them weeds.

If you're fit and healthy it'll come up with your bare hands, or a fork.  I'm not a fan of grasses, they look ok in the summer but for the rest of the year they look dull and haggered.  If you want to go belt and braces you could put weed supressant mat in the borders and cut holes around for anything you want to keep in there.

Have you tried to remove it with the bare hands? It seems easy to remove (at least in the pic).
