Photonic Red Robin leaves

My Photinia is about 3 years old and has finally started growing a bit and had produced lots of new red leaves.

However, I have just noticed that a few of the new leaves have dried and curled up almost like they have been scorched. The weather has hardly been warm enough to cause that so am wondering if bugs have got to it though I can't  see anything.

It is looking really healthy though there are some black spots on the older leaves.  Anyone have any answers?

Rolled up leaves are a classic sign of a plant being affected by a herbicide. Is your garden next to an intensively farmed field?
If not, what are your neighbours like?  :#

My garden backs on to 2 bungalows with nice gardens. No problems with neighbours.
6 ft fence all along this part and lots of nice shrubs etc growing on bungalows side.
There doesn't  seem to be any problems with other shrubs I have there.

It may not have been warm but it could be dew or raindrops and the sun has shone through

But the curling sounds more like bugs. Either the ones that roll the leaf to hide or they've just sucked the sap. They like the soft young leaves.

I heard recently about the black bugs that come off the oilseed rape. I reckon that's what is my problem with my dwarf cherry. Leaves curl
The rape is in full bloom here and more of it than ever. I'm some distance from the fields.

Just did a quick search and there's lots of images for it. Have a look and see if there is anything like you have.
One answer was stress from cold nights and warmer days.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Good. That's probably eliminated herbicide damage. It's important to rule things out in order to determine what might be more relevant.

Mine's dropped a lot of leaves with spots leaving bald area  though new red shoots growing through at tips of branches.
I visited an expensive garden centre and some of theirs in similar state whilst others looked fine so I think it might just be a seasonal problem on some varieties.

Maybe it was just a case of a couple of frosty nights we had.  It has only happened to a few leaves so I will keep an eye on it.

I think it was last year that I sprayed something on for green fly but have not seen any yet (maybe too early for them)
