Old CCJ settlement discussion breaks down, what happens next?
I phoned the current owners of 2 unsatisfied CCJs from over 10 years ago hoping to settle at 10%. I had not heard from these people for several years. I have not made payments for over 10 years, if at all since the CCJ was issued as I had no income at the time. My offers of 10% were refused. I can understand that. I need…

CCJ and debt default help.
Firstly, apologies as I've posted this on the CCJ forum and now realised that It should be on this forum instead. Can I delete that post? A few years back I got myself in a mess mentally and financially. I did what at the time was I felt my only option and buried my head in the sand. Fast forward to this year and I've…

My partner's debt
Hi My partner has credit card debt of around £9,000, but it could be more. Whenever I bring it up, he gets extremely defensive & clams up. Even though he's previously told me that he's paying off £500 per month, whenever I ask him the balance on his card, the figure seems to be increasing. He just doesn't want to talk…

Gym debt arc europe
Hi, I joined a gym, and you have to give 3 months notice before you quit, so I quit the membership and didn't go during that 3 month period. Obviously it adds up, and I now have 126 pounds to pay in debt for the 3 months, and I have been contacted by Arc Europe and told that if they don't receive the payment within 10…

Just need reassurance really
Hi everyone, nervous newbie here. I was googling debt advice and came across this link and thought how nice it would be to hear stories of people who are in a similar situation to me, as often my debt journey feels incredibly lonely and isolating! I’m a married mum of three and my husband and I are currently in (inward…

Credit File / Security clearance
Can any offer advice/knowledge? I have defaults that have dropped off my credit score. I’m in the process of filling out the financial section for security clearance for work. I really don’t know if I should mention these debts (as I’m still paying towards a couple but they no longer show on the credit file) or not. The…

Confusion over company debt with personal guarantee
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can clarify whether a debt can be owed both by a limited company and by an individual simultaneously. I ask this because I took out a loan under my limited company several years ago which had a personal guarantee. The business ran into trouble and was unable to keep up the contractual…

What happens if you just ignore your debts?
Lots of posts here from people who want to get to grips with their problem and well done to them for making a start. I'm not in debt, I'm lucky, but I do wonder what happens eventually to the people who DON'T ask for help, just keep struggling on, making minimum payments, missing payments etc,? If they have an interest…

Lendable Home Visit Letter
Hello, I have a letter for Lendable that says they will make a personal visit to my home to get back in touch with me. I had stopped paying the monthly amounts and not contacted them at all, hoping they would default first before I could tell them my situation. I'm thinking I write to them with my situation at this stage -…

HMRC letter
Hi Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I have received a letter today from HMRC for late filing penalties dating back to 2013/2015. This is the first time they have contacted me. I did run a business back then and had an accountant who dealt with all my returns. I am aware that HMRC can persue you for a long…

Help needed please 🙏
Hey all, so I’m £27000 in debt. I don’t have to explain why but I want to. Split from my ex husband of 24 years Feb 22, sold our house & actually paid off our £42000 worth of debt, I have 3 children, I work full time, I stupidly racked up more debt which I should not have done. Been lurking on here since April when I…

Feeling a bit down about it all.
So as I pay debts off I cut up the card, I have paid off two loans this month and have cut up 3 cards today. I looked at my spreadsheet and realised I STILL had 7 debts to go, one loan and 6 credit cards :( . Just feeling a bit deflated (was 30,000 now down to 16 000) .

Reduced payment plans
Hi, I’m just starting a new thread to try and understand the pros and cons of reduced payment plans. Do they just mean that you pay a reduced amount and take longer to clear your debt? So interest remains the same, the debt amount remains the same, the only thing that changes is the monthly payment and therefore the loan…

DMP Newbie
Hi all, I am at the very start of my Debt-free wannabe journey. I have £ 47000 in debts (this includes a hire-purchase car) Went onto the StepChange website and it suggested a DMP. I have not defaulted on any of my payments, but I know that in the next month or so I won't be able to pay. Currently I feel a bit overwhelmed…

Business bank account whilst going through a self managed DMP
Hi guys, I have a question regarding opening a business bank account whilst on the road towards a self-managed DMP. As some of you know, I am currently £50k in unsecured debt with the intention to allow my accounts to default as my income as a sole trader has significantly dropped and I just can't hold it all together…

OPUS chasing statute barred dept (and leaving voicemails on communal office phone)
Hi all, I’m reaching out for some advice regarding a situation I’m facing with a debt collector (Opus). They’ve been chasing me over an old debt that they’ve already acknowledged as statute-barred, meaning legally they shouldn’t be able to pursue it. However, despite this, they’ve been leaving voicemail messages on the…

Mortimer Clarke Chasing a 8 year old CCJ
Hello you lovely people. Just wanted to say what a great help this forum has been. As someone who suffers with mental health issues triggered by anything financial this place is an absolute godsend and not sure where I'd be without it. So about 13 years ago my life took a downward spiral and I found myself in loads of…
