DMP is this my best option?

Hello.

I urgently need some advice on my current debt situation.

I live with Bipolar Disorder and during a manic episode in April  of this year  ran up debts of 6,500.00

This is split over 4 CC & 1 Loan

All of the debt I created was via Credit Karma as I in put false details whilst in my manic episode

I live alone, currently unemployed and living of UC & PIP.

Is a DMP the best way to tackle it and if so do I use Step Change or manage myself?

I’ve not defaulted on the CC but have on the loan as I’ve asked them for some space whilst I formulate a plan. Should I default on the CC’s as I’m paying the minimum each month and the interest is so high that I’m just treading water.

Open to all advice as the debt stresses me out which in turn affects my mood and I’d like to clear  the debt asap.

Thanks in advance

Given what you've told us I think your best option is to ask for writeoffs on medical grounds

Are you working with a debt agency of any sort?  They will assist on writing to the creditors and ask for 60 days to organise a plan.  You could ask officially for "breathing space" which would mean 60 days of no interest and no fees and no chasing you to pay.  But a debt agency writing to the creditors will achieve nearly the same thing.

StepChange, NationalDebtline, CMA (Community Money Advice) or Christians against Poverty are all good choices.

Don't go with any organisation that wants you to pay them to assist you.
