silica gel and lilies
I want to dry out some lilies I recently got given and have been reading that silica gel is the way to go. Can anyone advise me on how much I need? There's packs of 1.5kg on sale, is this enough?! Thanks in advance :)

Question about scrap booking
Hi, I've got some lovely 12 by 12 papers which have inspired me to do a scrapbook, only I don't know if I actually need a scrapbook! Can you just stick the pages back to back and if so, how do you keep the whole thing together? I've only done one scrapbook before, for that I brought a book and stuck backing papers in.…

Advice removing quilting lines
I've been hand quilting a quilt where I've marked the pattern with pink chalk from Clover. I now have a problem - how do I remove the pattern lines? I've tried rubbing with a fabric eraser but to no avail. I can't believe I've spent all this time and effort for it to be marred by these lines.:( I hope someone can…

Which Sewing Machine?
Hi All, I did needlework at school about 25+ years ago. Was quite good at it and confident using a machine. Since then have made one pair of curtains on a borrowed machine! I've now discovered quilting and would like to buy a machine for this. I would also like to start dressmaking again as well as making the odd pair of…

Cheap Kraft wallet cards?
Hi all. I'm starting to think of my wedding invitations and would like to use the brown recycled Kraft wallets to put the inserts into. Only problem is, it's around £1 per unit on eBay, which is too expensive. Can anyone recommend a cheaper way to get these wallets and recommend any good suppliers? I'm happy to stick them…

where to buy a scrapbook?!
Hi all you wonderfully crafty peeps! I've always been crafty, sewing and card making mostly, but I've never done a 'proper' scrapbook. So I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction! We've just found out we are expecting our first little one (still very very early days so no-one knows yet except the MSE community…

Sewing machine service
Hi everyone! I've had my sewing machine for about a year now and I keep reading that this is about the time I should get it serviced. I have looked into this before for an old machine, but couldn't find anyone locally who does this (I even asked in the local craft shops and they had no recommendations) It is not a…

Looking for something cat friendly
I've been a huge cross stitching fan since I was about 6 years old and have done hundreds of pieces (mostly used in birthday cards to close family). I have medical issues that mean my hands now shake, so I had to switch to doing cushion size chunky cross-stitch as fine work is beyond me now. I also crochet, using 6mm hooks…

Fixing small canvases together to make larger one
Hi! My DD was doing art at school, but the teacher only had small ready-stretched canvases, so she took four and placed them in a block to make a bigger area to paint. What I need now are some kind of spring loaded clips, so that I can fix the canvases together before I put it up on the wall. Does such a thing exist, and…

Can anyone recommend a paper cutter/guillotine for trimming cards
When I make cards I often cover the card front with paper and then trim the edges. My paper cutter has broken and I am looking for a new one - can anyone recommend one? I only need to cut straight lines, don't need one for fancy edges. Thanks.

knitting and crochet yarn
I mostly sew but do like to knit and crochet from time to time. I can't use wool as it makes me itch but am getting more and more irritated with acrylic yarn that goes bobbly when washed (have to buy cheap yarn as it is all I can afford). I have been looking at some branded yarn that costs more than I would normally spend,…

Card making and storing supplies
Hi, I am just taking up card making and am gradually getting some supplies, I don't want to go mad and spend a lot of money all at once (though it is tempting) so am just getting the basics to start off with. However, I am just wondering how you people store your supplies. I live in a one bedroomed flat so I don't have a…

Home made food / craft swaps
We went to the first swap group near us today. It was great fun, though we did come home with an awful lot of cake - which is appropriate given that it is OH's birthday! Luckily the 2 large loaf cakes will freeze, and the cupcakes and brownies won't last long around here anyway... We also got some dried bay leaves and a…

Parchment craft
Hopefully there are many of you out there who enjoy parchment craft as much as I do. Some people call it Pergamano, which is actually the name of one of the manufacturers of tools, grids, stamps and paper with which to do the parchment craft, and not the name of the craft itself. Whatever you wish to call it, it would be…

Craft Magazines
Hi I have a load of Craft magazines mainly Crafts Beautiful and Papercraft Essentials that I want to get rid of and was wondering what the best way of selling them (nominal price) or if there is even a market for them. I tried a few on ebay in a bundle but the postage works out so high because of the weight. If there is…

Where best to get supplies?
I'm planning on a session making pendants and cufflinks with my Brownies and Guides next term (so they can then give them to patents for Christmas presents), but have become stuck. Do any MSE'rs have suggestions about the most cost effective place to buy about 30 each of the gubbins to make these cheaply? Thanks in advance…
