2023 - No Craft Spending - I WILL bust my stash and make pretty things!!!!!
Another year - another chance to stash bust and turn all our crafting supplies into pretty things :) I have put myself on a self imposed craft spending ban during 2023. As a total ban has not worked well for me in the past I have decided to set a budget of £300 for the year for me to treat myself to new supplies. I am not…

Brush calligraphy
How can I learn brush calligraphy? Are there online resources you've tried that are good? Also I'd like to try some brush letter stencils - any idea where I could find these, or a font available on standard software that I could print myself? Thanks for any suggestions or things you've tried yourself.

RHS watercolour painting books
Bit of a long shot but has anyone here ever seen/used one of these? OH is asking me what I want for birthday and Christmas and I foolish spent my pocket money a couple of months back on a load of lovely paint & pencil sets (which I'm loving.....) so don't need any more supplies. But these look possibly a bit of fun. Looks…

Sewing machine not working
The bobbin holder of my sewing machine isn't turning. It's as if it's locked in bobbin winder mode. I've oiled it, dismantled to check for thread and cleared of fluff but still not working. The other parts are working. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Tunisian crochet scarf
Finished my scarf - have put side pockets in that have been sewn closed a little at the bottom to stop phone falling out etc. First time I have done Tunisian crochet - pockets are because my hands always feel the cold no matter what gloves I have. Have put things in pockets to show where they are.

Want to try crochet
I'm a knitter at the moment taught by my Mum, but I'm interested in giving crochet a go and have seen these "beginner kits" on Amazon at what seems like a very cheap price. Has anyone used these and are they any good? They seem to have everything you need to get started but I've read the reviews and they seem quite mixed.…

Alternative to split pins
Hi there, Bit of an odd question, but I am looking for something that I can use on two pieces of cardboard to allow the top one to rotate (think of the card pull string toys where the arms and feet move up and down as you pull a string). However, I would need the top movement to be fair stable so the top piece of card…

Making silver jewellery and selling it
I am considering doing a silversmith course and selling the items I have made. However, I am reading that it is illegal to sell silver without a hallmark. I understand one of the best places to buy silver for jewellery making is Cookson Gold. This all presumably comes hallmarked. So how do I sell the jewellery without a…

Floor lamp with magnifier
Hi. I have started cross stitch and am loving it but I think I’d be better if I had a brilliant lamp with a magnifying glass attached. I see there are some on the market but nothing I’ve found really stands out. Does anyone use one and could you suggest a good one please? Thank you.

HELP! Just bought an overlocker/serger
Hi! Ive recently gained our dining room back from the kids, who used it as a games room for 10 years while they were growing up. I've decided to turn it into a craft room! :disappointed: I've tried to furnish it with freebies and second hand things to keep costs down. I've always fancied having an overlocker and yesterday…

MSE Blog Discussion: Grab bundles of craft supplies from £1 via scrap stores
Read MSE Jenny's blog: Grab bundles of craft supplies from £1 via scrap stores From tinsel to textiles, buttons to bubble wrap, scrap stores let you grab dirt-cheap craft materials that might otherwise have been sent to landfill. We're keen to hear from anyone who's used them. What have you picked up? How much was it? What…

Help!! Old hem line on trousers
Hi, I hope someone can help. I have an old pair of M&S trousers, a mix of viscose and polyester with some elastane. When I bought them they were too long so I took them up and wore them for years. However, having put on (ahem!) a certain amount of weight they are now pulled up by my expanding girth :/ , and are too short.…

Knitting on a plane
I've always found it amusing that I could take knitting needles on a plane when I went to the US without any trouble at all but having had my needles confiscated at a Spanish airport made me realise that this isn't always universally allowed! I'll be flying again shortly and I doubt my knitting needles would get through…

Do you sell anything you make?
I love lots of different types of crafting, but there's only so many things I need to make for myself, and our family is very small, so no gifts to make for presents, so tend not to make things just for the fun of it. For example I use my sewing skills more for mending and adjusting clothes rather than buying material and…
