I've made meringue before but never for a roulade - will it still 'roll' OK tomorrow after baking tonight? I have to leave it to cool anyway…

Spring has arrived! Laundry out on the line :)
Hooray! Beautiful morning and I've got the laundry pegged out on the line outside for the first time this year :T I much prefer drying laundry outside, it smells so much nicer, but my garden is north facing, so the line is in the shade over the winter when the sun is low in the sky. So, for me, this is a sign that spring…

Do I need to wash a water bottle?
We have two large glass bottles from IKEA which we use to store water in the fridge. When I bought them I cleaned them both with washing up liquid, but now I just use and refill them whenever they run out (1-3 days). We never drink from the bottle, just pour the water into a glass. Is this ok, or should they be washed? If…

New kitchen: must haves or what to avoid?
We are in the very fortunate position of planning a brand new kitchen to go in our planned extension. Spent a few hours in IKEA today planning what we want. Having never, ever done anything like this before, and now that it is no longer just a faraway dream, I don't want to miss anything essential or put in something that…

Cordless vacuum cleaner
I currently have an upright Panasonic vac with bags, the cable and hose is short and basically it's a faff. I want a cordless cleaner and have heard the Dyson is good as is the G ram but with the latter you have to buy the hand held model separately. I have two cats who shed a lot of fur and I would find it easier to…

how much money wasted over the years
In the past 12 months I have been trying to save money using this forum for ideas. The latest is breakdown cover, Aviva which I have used for years and not called out for the past 8 years wanted £96 renewal, tried a haggle but got nowhere so have registered with autoaid for £42. When I was at sea I was worried my wife…

Messed up my watch plastic screen can I fix?
I had one before what happened was I normally clean watch straps with cheap aftershave to kill the germs (does anyone know a better way so I stop breaking them!) but the last watch I did it to the inside of the watch became "cloudy" as if it dried out the plastic on the inside though watch worked perfect. Thought it was…

Cleaning Chef Whites?
Can anyone off any advice? My son started training to be a chef at college last September, and has been on work experience for 2 weeks. He come home yesterday with his college chef whites absolutely covered with tandori chicken sauce - he is pretty messy. I've treated the whites with the oxi vanish stuff and used a vanish…

Cooking a whole chicken when you live alone
Do you think it's worth it? I did this last week after hearing many recommendations, I did it in the slow cooker, a small chicken. I still ended up with more than I could eat before it went off and most of it got wasted. I know I can freeze it but I'm really wary of freezing and reheating cooked chicken as I've heard…

Balancing out heat at this time of year?
What I tend to notice is I have one day where I feel warm with no heating at all (or a little cool but not cold) and one day of feeling a little bit of a draught. On the days it feels draughty I put heating on a few hours then the next day I dont need heating on at all, on the day after that I feel the draught again…
