O/S Daily Good Friday 25 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, looks dull, dreich but drying under foot after yesterday's rain - it started in the afternoon and continued on and off into the night. Today's forecast looks to be the best day of the weekend, we'll see. Makes me feel not so bothered that we've not gone away when the weather's not so good, but such a shame for all those that have.

Dinner last night was the provencale chicken, had to do several adjustments to it - it was supposed to be a slow cooker recipe, using a packet powdered mix which you add to the chicken, peppers, a tin of toms - once I got it all in the slow cooker it was completely obvious that 1 tin of toms with no added water was not going to be enough, luckily I'd bought 2 x packet mixes, so mixed the other packet with water and added - left it all to cook and with 2 hours to go to serving wasn't happy with it, so got my trusty cast iron casserole dish out, got in on the hob added some of the liquid and then all the chicken etc, got the cast iron dish really hot on the hob whilst the oven was heating up, then transferred it all into the oven, left it for an hour and then it was much better and chicken appeared to be nearly cooked, needed to thicken the sauce - I served it with roast potatoes, peas, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO yorkshires, it was ok and edible but I won't make it again. Meals today are a bit more fluid, due to the decorating did the food shopping yesterday so loads in and plenty to chose from. Likely to be pizzas today for lunch.

I was reasonably productive yesterday got the shopping done, washing, drying and some ironing, there's still more drying and ironing to do, so need to see if I can factor in that - although work stuff for me is done and ready for Tuesday, the menfolk's work stuff isn't so need to sort that today, so we're not scrabbling around Monday night! Visited the bank and building society yesterday also, will just go to the building society in the morning.

Have a good day everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Canine alarm clock doesnt recognise high days and holidays so up at 0600 as usual. Lovely day here - about to take himself for a walk.

Orange boiling on the stove for cake, and bread in the breadmaker. Off to the gym at 0900, then an afternoon of cooking for the freeer. I made turkey meatloaf and vegetable soup last night. I have turkey meatballs, Chocolate Beetroot cake and 2 versions of orange almond cake on the list for today.

DH was off work yesterday with an upset tummy. He was supposed to be doing nights over the bank holiday, but they have said don't go in for 48hrs. One of the other doctors volunteered to cover tonight so I have a guilty feeling man about the house all day. Joy:mad:

    Have a great day everybody.

    Good morning everyone.

Seems bright outside and much milder.

No news from Melbourne though an old friend rang for a sad chat. I was in a deep sleep too and woke with a start when the phone rang.

Still got some chores to get on with this morning. I expect that the visitors won't arrive until about 3pm'ish, if not later, so there's plenty of time.

I hope everyone enjoys a Good Friday.

Good morning everyone, quite bright here after yesterday's rain.

Washing machine will be on he go in a minute, though I probably should have put it on an hour or so ago.

I have forgotten to get easter eggs so will have to go out later. Waiting until my oldies bus pass kicks in though, can't remember if it is the same weekday time to start on a bank holiday but don't really want to go yet anyhoo.

I am going to have today as a day off, I have loads of work to do but would like a day to myself and this place needs mucking out.

My narcissi are flowering for easter, how nice is that!

    Morning all,

Been raining all night but nice and bright now, off to work for me but then I have the rest of the weekend off. I must say I cant wait till 4.30 today ! It will be very busy today as well as we have a bouncy castle day which the kids love !

Take away tonight I quite fancy a Chinese but will see what the others want. Have got the wine chilling already !

Wont be doing anything else tonight, the rest can wait till tomorrow, Im going to have a day doing all my jobs, cleaning cooking and shopping etc and then I have the next two days relaxing.

Have good days all and enjoy your Bank Holiday xx
  • Morning everybody. Happy Easter to one and all! Yesterday's rain missed us but it was still a dull day. Today is glorious and forecast to remain so. Sadly it seems it's downhill for most of us after today. Typical Bank Holiday weather! (Btw AOD, yes you can use your bus pass early on bank hols whatever the day)

It's the usual Friday clean round for me today (is it Friday every other day 'cos it seems it!) and it really needs it. The place feels a tip!

The shopping got done yesterday and everywhere was so busy. Sainsbob's was heaving, people with trolleys piled high. Reminiscent of Christmas! Crazy! Aldi wasn't quite as bad thankfully, but busier than usual. I took advantage of the veg super six which had been brought down to 25p. I got two enormous Swede, a giant Savoy cabbage, a bag of Parsnips and a bag of red onions. Bargain!

DD and the girls got off to the caravan after school yesterday as planned, so a peaceful week in store for us! Heaven!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. GERS enjoy your time with OH and your visitors. Take care everybody xx

    Morning all

I woke up at 5:30 again but lolled around in bed until my bladder forced me to get up.
Hubby and I have had a cuppa, I'll feed the fish in a sec.

I had my smear test yesterday, I never usually have a problem but I think she used a pneumatic drill and I had to take pain killers afterwards.

Hubby won an award at work yesterday for always being happy, quite an achievement as at home he is the grumpiest bu&&er possible.

Yesterday morning was manic, I arrived early at 7:15 and by 9:15 I'd produced over 6000 documents and it carried on like that until I left to go to the Dr's.

As hubby was the last one to leave he was given 12 pints of milk and some chocolate biscuits that had been left in the fridge, he passed them on to DD2.

I have no idea what we are doing today, I'll see what hubby wants to do when he get up.

    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone,

Sunny and bright here with wall to wall blue sky, it's going to be our only nice day of the weekend apparently so will be out in the garden this morning making the most of it. We are off to Mum's for lunch then will bring her back with us to stay overnight, she is then going to stay with my brother for the rest of the weekend so has a nice busy time with her family.
Him and I went out for a meal last night, what we call out sibling catch-up, when we make time for each other and talk through what's going on in our lives. The food was fab and it was lovely to spend time with him, it's something we have done since the days the three of us all left home, so poignant now it's just the two of us although Nick is never far from our thoughts.

Anyways, my tea won't drink itself, have a good day all whatever you are doing x

    Morning all.

    Beautiful sunny day here too.

Not sure what's happening today. It's no good making plans when hubby is at home as they are usually changed. I usually visit Mom on Fridays but I might leave it till I've been shopping. I want to get her a 2 week supply of fruit shoots as she likes them and I'm not sure when I'll be back from Devon.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning :hello:

Judi I hope DS is OK x
I saw a fab YouTube video for long hair a while back, can't find it now though. She tied her hair in a ponytail at the front of her head, centre of the fringe at the hairline. Then combed it down in front of her face and cut it straight across, level with her chin. Lovely long layers. I cut a bit shorter than that, just underneath my nose. She had a long fringe so left it as it was, I snipped into mine when it was dry until it was the length I wanted. My fringe never sits nice and flat -I wish it would! - so I never cut it straight across.

The bathroom is looking much better, still not finished though! The pipes are now hidden under the floorboards, the wall was a bit rough behind the pipes so it's been skimmed over. We can't fit the skirting boards til the plaster is dry. Then we'll have to paint again. I have a proper window sill, I'm very thrilled about this :D There was a boxed-in pipe that was redundant, leading up to a water tank in the loft – which is no longer there, we took it out years ago :D I was so used to that boxed-in bit that I didn't even notice it anymore. That's gone now so I can put up some corner shelves or something.

The greenhouse is in the back garden, we just need to flatten the ground a bit more then we can put it in place and start putting the glass in. Not today, I can't face it today :D

I'll go for a long walk this morning, hopefully Scampi will behave. He was wound up yesterday, what with the work going on, and still seems a bit tetchy this morning. Not sure what I'm doing later, will see how the day goes and what I can be bothered with, lol.

  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

The sun is a shining to welcome the day, but I am not going to the fair!!

OH is going out to the garden, I an going to do he Friday clean and play with the new Dyson. I also want to clean on of the mats in the kitchen, something has been spilt on it, so will fuel up the steam cleaner. I will also do the work tops and tiles whilst it's in the kitchen.
