O/S Daily Wednesday 23 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, looks dull, dreich but dry.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was a naughty chicken and chips takeaway – we didn’t get home until after DH had got in from work, so it made sense to pick up takeaway on the way home, - didn’t really want to spend the money but if I got in and cooked it would have been 7pm ish by the time we were eating and DH is working very early and wants to eat as early as possible. Tonight’s dinner will be egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, and toast.

Work yesterday was a manic morning, which did then ease off later in the afternoon, only working until lunchtime today and will be glad to be home for the long weekend, I’m not back to work until next Tuesday, I start the extra hours next week.

Parents evening for DS2 was ok, he’s got a lot of work to do, his course work is reasonable but it’s his exams that let him down, so they’re working with him on that – I can only support and encourage him, I can’t do it for him.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Hugs Gers.
Judi - Have a good holiday.

Went for a haircut last night and feel so much better! Also collected a little bedside cabinet, I'll paint it for DD during the 2 week holiday, we have this weekend off, back for 4 days then off for 2 weeks. Will probably go and see DS2 the second week.

Had sausage, bacon and stir fry for tea last night that was good and tasty, trying to use up the veggies before the weekend, nearly there with just enough to last!

Must get organised today, work is madly busy and feel a bit done in when I get home but have to do some housework tonight, at least I have been keeping up with the washing.

    Take care. XX

    Morning all

Chilly here today, hopefully the car won't be iced up like it was yesterday.

The fish have been fed, hubby has a cuppa in bed as he's on the late shift, next week when I'm on holiday he's on earlies so will need to be at work at 6:30.

Two more machine breakdowns yesterday so I'm really looking forward to having a break next week, I'm fed up with poor reliability and moaning staff.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

No news from Melbourne yet. Everything is with the coroner, which I assume means a postmortem before the body is released. Nothing with happen until after the Easter weekend I suppose. Waiting is awful. I made a photo book of his life yesterday which was interesting and sad.

Meanwhile, yesterday I shifted monies about to get the fare ready. I'll pay on the credit card - purely for the Sect 75 protection - and pay it off straight away. I bought a couple of smart casual tops, no real idea why but again it seems to be distraction therapy, most odd.

Through all this I've managed to stick to BSD, apart from a couple of drinks on Sunday night, so am feeling really pleased with myself. Normally my response to stress is to comfort binge eat so this is a real surprise. I'm on week four now.

Don't know what today will bring, think I'll go out for a drive to the Hollow Mountain again. I like it there.

Camelot - hope the inspection went well. I remember well the sheer horror of them and the amount of stress they brought.

Right, seems I'm not going to sleep anymore so it's the shower for me.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

Morning, I have another late return from work today so will go in a bit later. We officially start at 8.45 though I can please myself within reason. Normally I like to get in at least an hour before that but not today.

Failed to go to a senior manager's leaving drinks thing yesterday since I didn't finish on time, fortuitous as I really didn't want to go.

Better get ready, my enthusiasm is dwindling as the week goes on. Dry here, should put the washer on before I leave for OH to hang out later.

I itch, don't think I put the last lot of washing on with enough extra rinses. That isn't all that OS but I think that I must have developed some sensitivity to the laundry stuff.

    Onwards and upwards.....

    Morning all,

Cold but bright here off to work but no actual work as we have a team building day, which will be great ! Like having a day off ! We are off to Blenheim palace and I am not sure what we are doing but I think the maze is involved !

Dinner tonight will be at mums, not sure what she is cooking but it will be lovely as always.

Must have a sweep round tonight and put a wash on.

Cant remember who was talking about Ramsgate yesterday, but it bought back fond memories, we used to spend our summers there as children staying with an aunt great memories !

Have good days all and hugs to Gers xx
  • Morning all. A dull start here but forecast to improve. I have a real backlog of washing to do so, hopefully, that should get hung outside.

Yesterday's trip over to the caravan was accompanied by more problems but, at last, the van and awning are habitable, clean and the store cupboards stocked up! It's all ready now for DD and the girls to go over for Easter and undo all the hard work!! DD and I had our lunch watching all the birds, squirrels and rabbits pottering about and it reminded us just how much we love going over there to unwind. Memories of the stresses involved in setting up forgotten!!

I have a backlog of jobs to start on today but first the washing mountain to tackle. I also need to do a quick trip into town for little Easter gifts for the girls. I don't buy them eggs or chocs as they get more than enough as it is!

The BS diet has been a bit hit and miss the last few days. I have eaten the right foods through the day but, by the time we have got back from the caravan site at night, I have been so hungry I have been tempted by all the wrong foods! Today is a new day and I am going to do better!

We have the girls for tea and sleepover tonight (arriving in stages from their various classes and clubs) so plan a big Shepherds Pie which can easily be warmed up for them as they each arrive! I shall have some chicken and lots of the veg I think.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Especially GERS, waiting for news is so stressful. Hope the doctor's visit went well for your DH CANDLELIGHT. Take care xx

  • Morning all,

Very overcast here this morning, I don't think it is due to improve.

Gers the waiting must be dreadful, I am sure you must want to be over there to comfort the family.

TA thank you for asking. Well he did allow me to go in with him thankfully. It is more likely to be kidney failure than the heart failure I was thinking. I am cross with him because evidently the skin is broken on his egs, despite me saying he must be carefull, he never told me. He has antibiotics for that to hopefully ward off an ulcer, he has vitamin D which he has to take 3 times a week, moisturiser for his legs and the GP has changed the dosage of one of his heart tablets. This is now a lower , dose because it is known to cause kidney problems.

He has to go for blood tests next Wednesday, I think for the doctor to see if he is on the right track. He was lovely, and said there was a lot going on in hs body but hopefully it will be sorted. The blood test will also show if there is any heart failure involved.

It was a good thing I went in with him because he didn't tell the GP everything, trying to play things down, needless to say I did :)

DGD1 had a lovely day on Monday for her 23rd birthday and had a wonderful weekend in York with BF.

Elona it is good to see you posting, you must be excited thinking of how your new home will look when finished.

We are off to see DD1 this morning but nothing else planned.

    Have a good day all

    Candlelightx
  • CANDELIGHT nice to read the positive review of the GP app. I don't know, these poorly hubbies of ours do cause us a lot of worry. Mr TA says he doesn't worry about his condition as I do more than enough for the two of us! Hope all goes well with the new medication regime x

Good Morning all and ,<hugs to Gers>> The waiting must be awful, just being in limbo xx

candlelight good job you went in,men are so daft at times they would rather put up with things rather than get them sorted Hope he get his medication sorted out OK

Well DGS Ben and I enjoyed the movie 'Spotlight' about the cover up of child abuse in Boston reveled by the Boston Globe newspaper, quite dark at times and also sad that such a thing could be covered up by well-meaning people who didn't want to rock the boat.

Today I have my sociology U3A class which I always enjoy this morning then home to put my feet up:)

Weather is mild but not as sunny as yesterday which was glorious.I helped Mikey make a cardboard castle for school last night and it took me back years to when my two DDs were small and we had to make things :) lots of glue, brown cardboard and poster paint :):):)

Tomorrow morning my gardener is coming to tidy up the garden and give it the second mow of the spring. My neighbour whose garden back on to me had his oversized tree demolished yesterday so at least my garden won't keep getting filled with his leaves and the grass will grow better :)
In the afternoon I have a U3A social club meeting so I shall be a busy bee again Friday I am driving Ben back to Norwich to Uni and I am hoping the M11 will be quiet
Right time for a cuppa and some breakfast I think Have a good day chums what ever you are doing

    Good morning everyone

It's quite bright here this morning. Hubby and the girls have left for work/school and I am here alone with a beeping phone which is going to drive me mad today. The phone is faulty but I can't get the batteries out of it so it is very slowly discharging but trying to call the base unit at the same time. As soon as it has finished I will be packing it up and sending it back to Amazon.

A friend is meant to be coming today but she is a bit flakey so I will not hold my breath. Her daughter has just found out she is expecting so I will get the knitting needles out again. It will make a change making baby clothes rather than toys.

The girls finally break up today for a couple of weeks. I will be so happy to have them home even though we don't have anything planned. DD16 is doing the National Citizenship thingy this summer so she has been invited to meet everyone at the cinema next week. It is so out of character for her to do this and I am very proud of her for trying. Hopefully it will build her confidence up too.

We are going to be having sausages and cheesy mash for tea once I persuade one of the girls to peel the spuds. DD13 made curry last night for me and her Dad and pasta for her sisters all by herself. She did a fantastic job too.

Well the washing is on and I need to tidy the kitchen so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
