Do I need to wash a water bottle?

We have two large glass bottles from IKEA which we use to store water in the fridge. When I bought them I cleaned them both with washing up liquid, but now I just use and refill them whenever they run out (1-3 days).
We never drink from the bottle, just pour the water into a glass. Is this ok, or should they be washed? If so, how often?

It won't hurt to wash them out occasionally. Even in the fridge there is the possibility of algae starting to grow but it may take a few weeksThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If you're thinking the water you use from it is washing it, would you drink water from the sink...? Yes, wash it! Just hot water between fills or once a week. Algae and other nasties can, will and do build up but you won't see it until it's fairly well gone.

Rinse/wash them out - baby sterilising tablets dropped in would suffice as a faff-free/to be sure way of achieving it.0

Oooo ok lol, DS pulled a face when I told him I didn't wash it - that's why I thought I would check it with the wise ones on here!0

There's an easy answer to that one - suggest he washes it.0 -
Good grief!
You never wash the bottle? And drink water from it?

I use water bottles in the fridge and just put mine through the dishwasher, refill and straight back in the fridge0

My ones are the shape and size of a wine bottle. If I put it through the dishwasher will the water get up and inside it do you think? I'm not sure because of the narrow neck?0 -
Get a bottlebrush, for the sake of a quid or two it's worth it. Then wash like any other thing you eat/drink from0
