O/S Daily Thursday 24 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, looks dull, dreich but dry again.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, black pudding, mushrooms, beans and toast/bread and butter. I forgot to get the chicken out to defrost, so as I’m doing a food shop this morning I’ll get some fresh chicken and get that in the slow cooker when I get back, I’m making chicken provencale, with mash, veg and LO veg etc. I’ll also visit the building society and bank, so on Saturday I don’t have so much to do, as we are supposed to be decorating and the big car is booked in at the garage at 10.15am – second time we’ve had to take it back for the same thing, I’m going to insist it’s properly looked at this time and parts replaced, driver’s side window won’t open or if it will it struggles and then there’s no guarantee it’ll shut – so definitely needs sorting, and it’s not an old car.

Yesterday at work was busy, I was busy doing my job in one of the back offices, and was unable to help my colleagues in the front office, and they were run off their feet, customers getting irate and nasty – it’s not getting any better and can see the coming weeks being manic – I know when I go back on Tuesday it’ll be a nightmare – as we’ve been closed for the bank holiday days, but that coupled with first of the month at the end of next week will be hectic to say the least, and of course my supervisor and the manager above her are both on annual leave ……..?

I’ll be visiting the SM shortly and I’ll be getting there first thing, as I’ve been on a Thursday before and it’s busy even then, so will go and get it done, then I need to be productive at home, so I have washing, drying and ironing up to date ready for next week, as I know I won’t want to do it over the weekend as well as decorating the boys rooms. I bought the paint yesterday and managed to get a whole salmon – they were on offer in MrM’s it had already been cut into the 2 sides, and the rest of the fish was all packaged up with it, I should have used those bits to make a fish stock but don’t really have room in the freezer after filleting the fish and putting it in, so the bones/head/tail etc did go in the bin, not very OS, but the fish was a good price.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Your posts always make me feel hungry NMLC!!

The two youngest DGDs up bright and early this morning and we are now watching Tom & Jerry, The eldest (11) is not an early bird and will be to waken up shortly. It has to be an even earlier school run this morning as middle DGD 7, the brainy one, has to be in early for advanced maths lessons twice a week. They break up today for Easter for two weeks - no rushing around getting them all ready will be bliss!! They are all going over to the caravan straight from school, just as the weather is due to change! Sod's law eh for school holidays!

Food shopping day for us and will probably need to be Sainsbury's as well as Aldi today. Though we don't need a great deal in either. This afternoon I am hoping for a bit of me time, feet up with my book! (I can but hope!)

CANDYGIRL I hope your DD soon feels better. It's rotten watching our kids struggling. Middle DGD did her Brownie Promise last month, it was such a sweet ceremony. I don't know if all packs do it the same.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted needed. Especially GERS. Take care xx

    Morning all

Hugs to Gers and CG's DD

Ran out of paper yesterday, cue lots of grumpy staff and when it did arrive the driver wanted to dump it in reception instead of delivering it to my room as arranged, he got really stroppy when he realised what he had to do..

Still we are changing suppliers next month, to a company we have used 4 time before, the salesgirls promise the paper will be delivered to my room but the delivery drivers aren't aware of this and don't carry trolleys to wheel it in on, so that will be interesting!

I shall finish at 12:30 today as I have a smear test and by the time that is done it will be my finish time.
Time I made a move, I need to get to DD's to help with the school run.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Well, it's raining. We've had a good run of dry, bright weather so shouldn't complain but just in time for the holiday?

All the housework was done last night, just need to come home from work/hospice and put a wash through before I head up to DDs, means we can get an early start tomorrow morning and avoid the Good Friday traffic.

Hope your DD feels well soon Candy. BB how are you? Gers, hope you hear something soon.

Have a good Easter weekend everyone. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

I spent a lot of last night emailing or texting folk in Melbourne - they are 11 hours ahead do it means middle of the wee small hours stuff. Concensus is that the body won't be released until the back end of next week or early the week after so I can stand down my nervous anxiety for now.

OH is coming back for the weekend - his current project is getting more intense and demanding.

Friends are arriving too for the weekend so we'll all have a lovely time.

Must get on with my day - happy Thursday everyone.

    Morning all

Just sat a 3 hour cookery exam. I doubt if I passed. Who has salad for breakfast? Well it was a dream so anything can happen.

Was woken by a text message "Mom I need to see a doctor". I doubt if the surgery is open tomorrow, or Monday.

    Arghhh!

The men are home tonight. Not sure when hubby will be going back. I think hubby is concerned he is going to hit the higher tax bracket and he says he won't work for nothing. Still, nearly a new tax year.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning all,

Looks like it will be a nice day today, im off to work but at the quiet site today and I need to shut it down for the Easter break, so a lot of cleaning will be done today.

Blenheim palace was beautiful yesterday and our team came third in the maze race, the grounds are beautiful and its well worth a visit if you are that way.

Carolbee, I used to play in those arches as a child, there was nothing in them then I must arrange to go back for a visit.

Something and chips for dinner tonight and shopping being delivered.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

    Thinking of you Gers xx

I decided to cut my hair, the hair itself is very thick and there's lots of it. I grow it, thinking it's going to be all hippy-chick, but the grown out fringe just hangs there like a pair of tatty old curtains and the rest of it looks like a jumbled mess. I can wash-and-go or I can use conditioner, hairdryer, serum, straighteners, hairspray and within a couple of hours it's transformed itself back into a big mess. I've cut layers in and shortened the fringe, it's still too big so I'm going to attack it with the thinning scissors :D

The greenhouse was delivered yesterday. The frame arrived in one piece – we've taken one apart before and put it back together, it was a nightmare job and I said Never Again, lol. It just about fits between ours and the neighbour's house so the neighbour said he'd help carry it down the side and put it on top of the sheds. Our sheds are near the house, brick-built together (semi-detatched sheds, lol) and have a flat roof. Then they were going to slide it down the other side straight onto the veg patch. But the neighbour was on call and had to go out to sort a faulty gas meter so it didn't get done. I have a greenhouse frame and a pile of glass on my front garden and no idea how long it's going to stay there :D

The bathroom is being finished (!) today. The water pipes were going to be boxed in but now they're going to be moved under the floor. The sink and toilet will have to be removed for an hour or so and I just know something will go wrong with this job. I don't mind losing the sink for a while but am worried about the toilet, we only have one :D

I don't think I'm going to get much done today, I'll be too busy worrying about a pipe springing a leak, the toilet not going back in, someone spotting the greenhouse frame and nicking it for scrap money......... :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's dry here for the moment but rain is forecast for this afternoon. Hubby has gone to work armed with his big umbrella for the trip home. DD16 is awake and playing video games and the other 2 are still tucked up in bed. I had a big row with DD14 yesterday and she went to bed without eating anything or speaking to me. Hopefully she will be in a better mood this morning though as it is going to be a long Easter holidays otherwise.

I've just ordered a new bed and wardrobe from Argos and got a £10 voucher emailed to me so I've treated the girls to another game for their Wii U. It's Guitar Hero if anyone is interested it is half price at the moment and with the voucher it was under £30.

I've paid all the bills for the next month so I can work out the money we have left. We are not going away on holiday this year again so I like to treat the girls to trips to the cinema and swimming pool. I will be cutting back on the shopping though as we have cupboards and freezers full of food.

Tonights tea will be whatever I can pull out of the freezer and served with mash and green beans. I've just had an avocado and bacon toastie which was delicious and will keep me full for hours. I will put some more bacon on for the girls when they appear as we have run out of milk for breakfast.

Well I hope you all have a great day and a special welcome to spekysquarepants. Take care xx
