Washer dryers
I have been offered a slimline dish washer, I hate washing dishes and having a galley kitchen just on stray plate seems to make it descend into chaos. but it will mean I have to lose my tumble dryer. I only use the tumble dryer for bedding in winter or rainy days, never clothes. The tumble dryer was given to me so I will…

Ideas for tinned green lentils
Apologies if this is on the wrong page. I am cooking sausages and roast veg (onions, peppers and mushrooms) for tea tonight. I usually have couscous with it, but have found a tin of green lentils in the cupboard, bought as an impulse buy. I have tinned tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, various herbs and spices, rice etc. Any…

combi microwave. .any good?
My DH is a real foodie cook, and often uses the oven for one fish or to keep stuff warm, mid cooking. As I need a new microwave, would we save energy , or get good use from a combi microwave oven? JL have 2 small ones, but reviews show Panasonic burn food, the others a Samsung.

I know you are all very inventive on here and I am looking for some ideas - In my freezer I have a large leg of lamb, also 20 frozen angus steak burgers and a tray of chicken wings (the burgers and wings were left over from my DD1's graduation). My problem is that I have little money left to last the month and I am trying…

Can't get chutney jar to seal..how long will it keep?
Hi, I've been making greengage chutney this weekend (it's yummy already!) but I have one jar that won't seal. I've tried reboiling contents and putting into a newly sterilised jar but it's still not sealing. I'm thinking of giving it up as a lost cause. How long will it keep given I've not achieved a seal? Would putting it…

Getting rid of smoke
My son has just bought his first home. When we went around before he bought it, the estate agents had all the windows and doors open but it was summer, so we didn't think anything of it. There was a slight smell but it had been vacant for about 6 months. He got the keys on Thursday and the smell is so overpowering. We have…

Baking own bread
Hi My very first post on MSE (although I am a long time lurker, particularly on DFW :o ). I moved into my own house 3 months ago after costing everything out, but hadn't anticipated the boiler packing in after 2 days :o So, to cut a long story short, I'm now seriously economising to get back on track. I'm generally quite…

Quilts to Blankets
I've decided to get rid of my quilts/duvets and go back to good old fashioned blankets and sheets. I bought my first two flat sheets as a layer between body and blanket (nice flannelette ones from John Lewis) a double one for me and single for DS, and seen some nice woollen cellular ones (not the cheap acrylic ones) and…

Hi, Hmmm, I'm not sure how I got here but seem to have completley messed up my budget this month. I've managed to stretch my last shop to last 2 weeks but only have £5.40 in my purse today. I have some food in the cupboards but I'm not sure what to buy to make everything go as far as possible. Any ideas? There is just me…

Blackcurrants and dead freezer
Got up this morning to find my fridge freezer has died. I thought it wasn't as cold as normal yesterday but didn't think any more about it. Above the pizzas, meat, fish, icecream I value the several tubs full of blackcurrants, picked laboriously but full of food value which I'm loath to waste. I can only think of jam to…
