Hi,
Hmmm, I'm not sure how I got here but seem to have completley messed up my budget this month. I've managed to stretch my last shop to last 2 weeks but only have £5.40 in my purse today. I have some food in the cupboards but I'm not sure what to buy to make everything go as far as possible. Any ideas? There is just me and my 8 year old son. Will probably need more milk as he has 2 cups a day.
Fridge

Olive oil spread
Marmalade/jam
¼ jar green curry paste
Garlic mayo
3 eggs
Celery
½ savoy
2 carrots
90g cheddar
Freezer
Pitta
½ loaf white
2 sandwich thins
1 seeded roll
Container of leftover Bolognese
Tub frozen summer fruits
1 portion peas
1 chicken leg
1 portions beef sirfry meat and veg
2 portions oven chips
Cereals
Alphabites
Porridge oats (about 1 portion left)
Rice Krispies
Frosties
1 pot noodle
1 tin tomatoes
1 tin mixed beans
1 tin chickpeas
1 tin sardines in tomato
Thai style cous cous
Moroccan style cous cous
Chicken pasta sauce x2
Creamed coconut
Garlic
Spaghetti
Paella rice
1-2 portions w/m pasta
Bag orzo
1 portion red lentils
1 portion bulgar wheat
Lasagne sheets
Sharwoods noodles
Plain/SR/strong white flour
Dried yeast
Custard
Drinking chocolate
2 pears
1 lemon
Golden syrup
Honey (gone hard but good for porridge
Thanks for any help

Ive used the red lentils to make a lentil and carrot spicy soup and am baking a loaf of bread to go with it. This will be a late lunch today. Actually haven't made soup or bread for ages so will be nice to see how it comes out

Good work making your own soup and bread, that will help! Homemade bread and soup always tastes so much nicer than tinned and shop bought to me, and a fraction of the cost
Do you have any loyalty points on any card that you could use to bulk up the amount you can spend? Could help a little if you do.
What shops do you have near you? A*di currently have carrots, celery, onions, grapes, cherry tomatoes and savoy cabbage for 39p on their super 6. Do you have a good store of spices etc?MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
How much do Hob Nobs cost?
I'd spend it all on Hob Nobs.
You've got tea bags, right?0 -
dont really like hobnobs.....unless home made. Have lidl- where i do most of my shopping, Asda- which i avoid like the plague, and all the others in between. I live in a city so pretty much all on hand. I probably have about £2.50 on tesco club card
Thanks

Jam sandwiches and fruit for lunch box
Curry with chicken leg, curry paste, chickpeas and creamed coconut.
Pad out the bolognese with carrots and peas and serve with the w/m pasta.
Cous cous for lunches.
You could get some extra veg to pad out your beef and veg stir-fry and serve it with noodles.
Egg and chips.
Sardines on toast topped with grated cheese.
Just realised you asked for what to buy rather than what to cook so, I agree with the super six suggestion, maybe some cheap yogurts for the packed lunches. That's all I can think of now, hope some of that helps.Stay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

I agree with most ideas from Solstice, but please do check your clubcard account online and print off whatever vouchers you can to spend in store as this could really help!
I'd buy some rice and an onion, use half onion with tinned toms, beans & chickpeas, garlic & chilli powder (if you have it!) and make a chilli.
I'd use the chicken, other half onion and rice to make chicken fried rice, could use peas here too, or put them with egg & chips.
Use cabbage & carrot you have to pad out stir fry.
Keep making bread & use up what's in freezer too.
Salami slices in Li*l are 69p at the moment-good for sarnies.
So I'd probably buy:
4 pts milk £1
Salami 69p (Li*l)
Rice 40p (Te*co, unsure Li*l price)
Onion 16p (Te*co)
Pears (Li*l) 69p
Which leaves a couple of pound left for other veg to bulk up what you have.
Good luck!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
OP, have you a local supermarket which closes at 8.00 or 10.00? Because if you have it might be worth nipping down to see what's going cheap during the last hour. I get bread, rolls, etc. for 0.09p at Mo>>isons or the C))P on a Saturday night.
You could do with sliced bread or baps, milk, and an inexpensive protein, either sausages or mince. Eggs if you can. Something for sandwiches - paste if all else fails.0
