What would you buy?

  • Look on the Tes*o website and search for 'value' and order from price low-high. This gives a good idea of the prices of their value range, it isn't always easy to find them in store!

Choc mousses are 18p for 4, would make good addition to lunch boxes. Tinned rice pudding is 15p, could have a light dinner and have rice pudding & some of your frozen fruit for pudding.

Tinned potatoes are a big staple on our house, and at 15p a tin in Tes*co and Li*l they are a good option to make money go further.

Cheap stock cubes are also good to add flavour to things, like boiled rice. Hope there's some more ideas here!

  • Try and get some reduced meat at the supermarket things like sausages chopped in a basics / value stew , curry or pasta sauce
    :j I feel I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe :j
  • Don't forget, it's the season for foraging!
Near us we have oodles of blackberries this year and several neighbours have had a good growing season and so are offering squash, beans, apples etc - worth keeping your eyes peeled just in case.;)
  • Do you have a Farm Foods near you? I went yesterday and they were selling great big sacks of apples, 20 for £1.50 or 12 for £1. A lifesaver for packed lunches, to go with breakfast, after school snack etc. I would probably buy some pasta which can be put with anything and fills you up.
  • Hi here is what I would buy ( have priced at tesco so you can use your club card points ):

    4 pints milk. £1.00
    1kg onions. .69
    1 kg carrots. .70
    15 eggs. 1.25
    Baking block. .55
    Bacon. 1.50
    Tin toms. .34
    Baked beans. .24

    TOTAL. 6.27
If you use £2.50 club card points it will leave you with £3.77 to pay.

So then I would have a baking session and make bread rolls to put in the freezer to supplement the bread you have. I would also make flapjack and jam tarts for some sweet snacks.

I would have cereal/ toast for breakfast

Jam/egg sandwiches, pears, piece of flapjack or jam tart

    For dinners
I would defrost the tub of Bolognese sauce and stretch it by frying some onion and finely diced carrots and a tin if tomatoes then use some of it to make lasagne with one of the jars of chicken pasta sauce as the white sauce. Sprinkle with grated cheese.
I would also add the kidney beans and chilli to a batch and have with cous cous.

If you have any left you could have spaghetti Bol

I would also make a cheese an onion quiche and coleslaw using the cabbage, onion and carrot grated with Mayo

You could make chick pea burgers with your tin of chick peas to have in you hm bread rolls with chips

I would roast the chicken leg and pick the meat off and combine with diced bacon, onions, peas and the other chicken pasta sauce for a chicken and bacon pasta meal

You could then boil up the chicken leg, celery, onion and carrot for soup to have with hm bread rolls

And finally good old bacon egg and beans with alpha bites

That would hopefully see you through the week

Hope this helps - good luck x
  • Wow, some great ideas!!

I checked the value items on tesco as suggested. While I was there I checked club card points and found I actually have £16, so i have thankfully avoided the crisis. a £2 voucher actually runs out this November so good job I did check. I still have to get to the end of the month so i will still be using your ideas though. Last night I went to a friends gathering so got fed and watered there. Had porridge for breakfast and soup and bread for lunch, son had a cheese toastie, cucumber and milk. I've bought 6 pints of milk, onions, another tin tomatoes, cucumber so far.

  • Bought some brown rice and kidney beans yesterday. Used half the bolognese added some lidl kidney beans and turned it into chilli for tea last night. I found a £3 off a £15 spend voucher for Tesco and a coupon for 30p off something. Went to tesco express near work, cos its cheaper than the one near me. Managed to buy, chicken breast, sausages, beef mince, potatoes, broccoli, carrots, corn on cob, bananas, grapes, squash, greek yogurt, cheese, ham, frubes and a pkt of value choc digestives.....well..all for 70p cash. Then came home to find an £11 cheque for a refund for some missed swimming classes and a freebie of Aveeno moisturisor. Feeling rich!!!!:rotfl:
