Can't get chutney jar to seal..how long will it keep?

Hi,
I've been making greengage chutney this weekend (it's yummy already!) but I have one jar that won't seal. I've tried reboiling contents and putting into a newly sterilised jar but it's still not sealing. I'm thinking of giving it up as a lost cause. How long will it keep given I've not achieved a seal? Would putting it unopened in the fridge help extend the time at all?
Thanks!

Keeping it in the fridge will definitely help. The keeping time depends on the proportion of vinegar and sugar to vegetable matter. It will definitely keep for a while, especially in the fridge - Think of it as an open jar and eat it first when the maturing time is over.0

can you not put a double layer of cling film over the top secured with an elastic band?
Then add the cap?0
