The inedible yellow/green split peas mystery
I bought some yellow split peas, and was looking for a tried and tested recipe. I was disappointed to find this thread, stating that nowadays no matter how much you cook them they will still be inedible: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4471557 And then looking more widely, this blog:…

Ideas for a free personal diary?
Hi, not sure if this is in the right place? I have made a monthly printable calendar using word doc. but I also need a small personal diary for my handbag. Do any of you know of any website giving them away for free? I know I'm being a cheapskate as they only cost a few quid but it all helps. ;) Many thanks

Cleaning showerboard
We've just had a new bathroom put in and the tiles have been replaced with black sparkly showerboard, which is lovely, but proving tricky to clean. I cleaned it with a mixture of glass/window cleaner and soapy water (because it had some marks on it that seemed almost greasy that window cleaner would not shift.) It looked…

Batch cooking - Reheating food in takeaways containers
We have recently decided to get into batch cooking to help save us both time and money :D . Mrs Freelander54 spent a few hours at the weekend batch cooking and freezing the following foods: Tuna pasta bake, Spaghetti bolognese, Shepherds pie, bulked out with chunky Veg. All the above have been put into the foil trays that…

What do you use old sauce jars for?
I've been keeping old pasta sauce jars and lids but other than putting tea lights in them I don't know what to use them for. They're the 500g size which is too big for jam (in this household anyway!) and we don't eat pickles or chutneys. Any ideas? [threadbanner]box[/threadbanner]

Old Style things you can't or won't do.
Generally speaking, we are all on this part of the forum as we embrace old style money saving & old style stuff. But I was thinking of OS things I don't do. I don't make soup. I can't stand soup. Yuk. I've tried. I've made soup. But no matter how I try. It makes me feel ill to eat it. I don't use reusable cloths to clean…

Super-Kingsize Duvet Cover problems - h-e-l-p please!
Not sure if it's just ME .................. I bought my dream King-Size Bed last year. As I like 'plenty of overhang' in my bedding I also bought a new Super-Kingsize 'All-Seasons Duvet' (ie 1 summer/1 autumn that join together) and managed, eventually, to buy Super-Kingsize covers. Great so far! However, when changing the…

Products in reusable containers
Would anyone mind looking in their fridge or freezer and recommend any good reusable tubs/boxes etc whose original products have long been eaten? Most ice cream tubs are great, but some butter ones are better than other. For example Norpak from Aldi comes in a fantastically strong plastic tub, I've used these over and…

Sorry, another slow cooker newbie
I've been given a Lakeland 1.5l slow cooker that comes with miniscule instructions, the idea being to turn it on before work and have a hot meal when I get in. However with dog walking etc it could be 9 or 10 hours unattended. I'm less concerned about spoiling the food and more about it boiling dry or whatever the sc…

Where can I save on my weekly food shop?
I need to cut down on the weekly shop. I think I am spending about £80-£90 a week on the four of us currently. I've like to get this down to £50. I've done a typical shop on mysupermarket and it's already over and missing lots of things that we don't always need every week but need to get at least once a month. Like loo…
