OS Daily Thread Tuesday 7th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Managed to sleep a bit better last night but still not great. All the things I need to do in work keep going around in my mind, am sure it will settle down this week and I can get back to a normal pattern of sleep.

Trying to do alternate days low carb/paleo this week to get back on track for next week going full on again but left overs from last night's dinner have already messed it up. So falafel and hummus for lunch and Nigel Slater sausage meatballs with stir fried cabbage for dinner.

That's about it really and I need to get a move on but will come back later for a catch up on everyone's news.

Has anyone heard how Julie is?

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark, but raining heavily - it's been raining from sometime during the early hours and is windy too. Not nice for journeys into work and school.

DH up and gone to work early.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad - easy dinner after first day back at work. Will be stopping off at SM this morning as it's my birthday today so my turn to buy the cakes/biscuits etc. Dinner tonight will be chicken in white wine sauce, pots, veg and birthday cake for dessert.

Work wasn't anywhere near as busy as I expected yesterday - but some of my colleagues said that last Thursday and Friday were awful, horrendously busy with people having to wait for ages. I think it's likely to be busy again today as all the schools here go back either today or tomorrow.

Mum and dad have already phoned to wish me a happy birthday and to check I'll be home early evening so they can visit.

    Keep safe and well x

    nmlc x

    Good Morning All

    Many Happy Returns NMLC

Another wet start here today, miserable horrible weather. Lots of the fields are flooded around here but still no problems with our house.

Today should be an office day but our client hasn't paid us for 3 weeks now  and not much I can do till get funds in, hopefully will go in today. Unfortunately there will be loads of bank charges at the eom. However I have not been stressing as there is literally nothing I can do at this point so this is one of my 'resolutions' this year - not to worry about things I can't change.

OH is at home today as no work, DS also doesn't start back at school till tomorrow. OH is going to hoover and wash all the floors downstairs, little dog is having her first season and its not pleasant.

Leftover lamb will be turned into stew for dinner tonight so that is nice and easy.

Best get going, have a great day all.x

    Happy Birthday nmlc :bdaycake:

We left the house yesterday and headed to Pizza Hut for lunch, realised it was near a couple of furniture shops so decided to nip in and look at beds. We need a new one, it's not desperate but thought we should get an idea of prices. Ended up buying a bed and didn't get pizza :D We don't actually have the bed (have to wait a few weeks for delivery), so we came home with a receipt and empty tummies :rotfl:

Julie I hope your op went well :)

glitterkitty I missed your birthday – sorry :o Sounds like you had a fab couple of days :D

My four Christmas cushions are very tatty so I'm going to crochet new covers. Can't decide whether to do them all the same or use four different patterns.

I'm going into town today to have a wander. I need to get out for a couple of hours by myself, I had some money for Christmas so I'll see if there's anything I fancy. Could do with a couple jumpers, if I find some cheap enough I'll use the rest on craft things :D

  • Morning :)

Yesterday was a crazy day, I did make bread and did 5 loads of washing... But I also made mini cheese omelettes for the freezer for DD1 and a 12 portion Spaghetti Bolonaise.

Today we were due to meet a friend for a play date and lunch, but it's been cancelled due to illness :(

So today I've more bread to make, house to tidy, dishes to sort, and I think I'll get on to the ironing. Tonight dinner is LO Chicken Korma and rice :)

I hope everyone has a great day today x

    Nmlc happy birthday x

    Morning All

    Lovely Doggie photos from yesterday.
    Julie - Hope you're ok
TTFTM - Glad your first day went well, hope there are many more.
    Happy Birthday nmlc.

Hugs to anyone feeling under the weather - and there's an awful lot of weather about, hope you're all safe.

Had lo sticky pork ribs and rice last night, thought the sauce had gone a bit bitter but we ate the ribs anyway! Making DD a pizza tonight from a part baked ciabatta loaf that needs using, I will have hm curried carrot and parsnip soup.

First day back at work went ok, soon got back into the swing of things, children all looked dreadful, I'm sure most of them hadn't been out of the door for 2 weeks and have been playing computer games all the time. At least at school if it's not raining they have to go out for their breaks.

    Take care. XX

    Morning all,

JulieGeorgiana - My, you have been busy!

    NMLC - Happy Birthday!

Very windy here and looks like more rain. WM on.

I decided to try the Couch to 5K again. I did it a couple of years ago but gave up. I have no stamina! So I ventured out yesterday afternoon and was quite pleased with myself. Also went to Yoga last night as my original teacher was back from maternity leave. It was nice to have her back.

Dinner last night was Vaguely Moroccan chicken with couscous and tonight I'm doing Horseradish beef in the SC.

Back to work for me today and a trip to the library for some more books :)

    Happy Tuesday all.
