Hi I'm having a 50th birthday party in 3 weeks & have just found out that my caterer is going on a cruise & will now be away! I am now having to do the catering myself & need help with ideas for some hot dishes (with recipes if possible) to go alongside the cold buffet. I thought of chilli con carne & boiled rice, & maybe…

Cheap Vinegar - Where to buy?
I have been told that vinegar works just as well as roundup as a weedkiller, but is much cheaper. Research on the web suggests it's worth trying! Now, where's the best place to buy vinegar in quantity? Best I can fins is just under £2 a litre for 5l which is about the same as buying it in small bottles from the…

Quick cooking question - hot pot
Hi all, Hope everybody has had a nice Christmas. I have a quick question about a hot pot I am cooking at weekend if anybody could offer an opinion? I have some pork stock I made in the freezer from the last time I made pulled pork. I would rather use this pork stock than an oxo cube. I'm pretty sure it will be alright, but…

Any cooking problems at Christmas.
I've read so many stories of beautifully cooked Christmas Lunches that you've all had. It got me wondering though .............. did anybody 'hit any snags'. Mine this year was the length of time that my chicken took to cook - it was darn well ridiculous :( . It was the ASDA ExtraSpecial Free Range Corn Fed and weighed in…

Help Please Sausage rolls not been refrigerated overnight
Morning. Firstly Merry Christmas, secondly I have been a complete idiot I think. I baked homemade sausage rolls yesterday afternoon, let them cool and then packed them away into a tin intending to reheat tonight for nibbles. Homemade Christmas dinner?
Is everyone making everything from scratch? If not is it lack or skill or for an easy life. I could do everything from scratch but have bought bread sauce mix, cranberry sauce & yorkshires. Will make my own mash & roasties. I bought ready made stuffed mushrooms and pate for starter and mousses for dessert. All things I…

Freezer defrosted 10duck breasts how to cook??
Any suggestions very welcome please. Went to put shopping in freezer and g.daughter had played with buttons. 10 lovely uncooked duck breasts I had been given are half defrosted. Figured we would be better using them for tomorrow's dinner, and fresh turkey Boxing Day. But any suggestions (uncomplicated) as to how to cook…

using turkey leftovers
Hi everyone, happy Christmas! I purchased a yellow sticker turkey today with date of boxing day. If I cook it on boxing day and store in fridge can we eat two days later? Or does it have to be eaten in 26th? If that's the case I'm guessing I could cook and then freeze cooked meat safely? Any advice gratefully received.

How do you cook your turkey? (Horror stories of mothers ruining the turkey welcome)
I have heard so many different ways that people deal with the Christmas turkey, I wondered what all the OSers do. I am brining our turkey a la Nigella with lots of spices, oranges, brown sugar and salt, and then tomorrow will glaze the breast with maple syrup (no bacon) and keep it well basted. We will eat at about 3pm so…
