Do you think this is safe to eat?

Options
Defrosted this overnight and its a bit of a grey colour and also the packaging has sort of vacummed? I'm trying to eat through the freezer (I've been a naughty mummy and kept buying food)

It is just freezer burn, perfeclty safe to eat once cooked, although supermarkets have meat under read lights, not all meat is red.

Have a sniff before you cook it, your nose will tell you

Mince turns grey once you start to cook it any way

    Go for it

PS the thing to watch out for is the packing swelling, not shrinking

I'm with Farway on this one.

The bright red coloured meat in the supermarket is the result of additives. Freshly butchered meat is dark red. It's oxidised: meat does this. There is nothing wrong with brown meat. Green meat, however ...

I've seen packs of beef like that on the supermarket bargain shelf, bought them, cooked them straight away and then eaten and/or frozen the result.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
  • difficult to tell by pictures but if it smells ok and it was ok when you froze it and been stored in the freezer ok then go for it. Just make sure its thoroughly cooked and have a sniff first, if in any doubt then bin it, its not worth it.

If you're still alive tomorrow you'll know it was safe. Chuck it away.

I'm a big believer I open it, smell it, and you will soon know. I would cook it well. DG

I have found packs of mince at the back of my fridge before and they have done this shrinking thing when they are definitely out of date having been forgotten about.

    I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft barge pole.

I will eat most OOD things but not something which has shrunk it's packaging :D
