OS DAILY - Tuesday 24th December 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but sounds quite blustery.

DH up and getting ready for work. I'm up because I'm going to the butchers for when they open to collect my meat hamper. Boys still in their pits, will leave them there as they can get up at their leisure.

Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, new pots, veg and gravy. Tonight not sure but I'm sure I can find something.

Have had very little sleep overnight - have had howling winds and rain, and at 1am we had a power cut and someone's house alarm started going off and was going off continously for nearly an hour, getting a bit hacked off with it now as it's becoming a regular occurrence. One day a couple of week's ago it was going off for nearly 2 hours 1 afternoon. It woke us up so DH and I came downstairs and I boiled some water in a pan and made us a hot drink, we then went back to bed, and power came back on for a bit then went off again - it's now back on and has been since about 4.30am so hoping it'll stay on now! Windy conditions and rain have died down alot in the last hour so according to the weatherman our area has had the worst of what we will be getting - we'll see! I'm thinking by the middle of the afternoon I'm going to be absolutely shattered but most things are in hand now so if I get to a point where I'm ready to prep the veg, lay the table etc then I'll do so - at least then I'll get chance to sit and chill or get my head down for an hour if needed.

Work was quiet yesterday morning but then went completely dead early afternoon, not helped by the fact that we lost the computer systems for what was only supposed to be an hour - they went off at 12.30pm and were due back on at 1.30pm but they didn't come back on until 3.35pm - 25 minutes before we close! But we didn't have any customers anyway - the weather was wet underfoot and windy in the morning but at lunchtime it started raining really heavily and was really nasty and stayed that way for the afternoon so people stayed away or were busy doing other things.

Will be heading to the bank first thing once I've collected meat hamper - will go to town early so I can be at the bank for when it opens - as have to collect a cheque - the last part of the inheritance - want to get the cheque safely in the bank so it's not hanging about at home over the holiday period.

Have a good xmas eve everyone x

Keep safe and well x

• Morning all.
I feel a little sad this morning - can't believe we're nearly at the end of another Year - where on earth did it go?
Time flies by in such a blur - I wish I could grab hold of the good moments and slow them down a bit!
The wind and rain kept me awake for much of the night, which is probably why I'm a little low at the moment - OH has kindly brought me a coffee in bed - he's usually left for work long before now but no trains are running just yet so he's heading for the station a bit later than usual.
Like you nmic, I want to get veg prepped and table laid today - only the four of us for dinner tomorrow but the morning is always quite hectic with both our families dropping in at various times for smoked salmon and bubbly and to exchange presents, so it leaves me no time in the morning to peel spuds and sprouts etc.,
I wish you all a peaceful, stress free Xmas - see you on the other side!! X

We lost Pepper Chicken yesterday :( She had a blocked crop, we've had to empty it a few times (don't ask) and she's been fine, but this time it was too much for her :(

We went to FIL's late afternoon, he didn't even offer us a cuppa. I wouldn't have one anyway, his house is filthy. Still miffed not to be offered one though. There's no pleasing me :rotfl: He gleefully outdid everything we said we'd done/not done, so he was all smug and happy by the time we left. Glad to be of service :rotfl:

The wind from the other night broke a fence post and a panel was flapping about, we fixed it temporarily (a wigwam of bits of wood and lots of long screws around the post, lol). The wind was horrendous last night. I put the outside light on just now, the fence is still upright. I'd be surprised if all the roof tiles are still attached though, there's none in the back garden, I'll check the front when it's light. Our friend had some damage to his roof, he was up late last night in the loft with wood and tarp, trying to temporarily fix the hole. Hope everyone on here is OK.

• Good morning all,
Haven't posted for a while, so much going on here at the moment. Haven't had to chance to catch up and read what is going on with everyone.
DD hasn't been too well for two and a half months and still isn't well and having tests.
Very windy last night and heavy rain. Part of next doors car port is in our garden.
All of the presents were delivered last week. Shopping is all done. It is just the four of us this year, didn't want any extras this year.
tru, we lost one of our chickens last week. No idea what was wrong with her.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas :xmastree:

Morning All

tru - your post really cheered me up, have you been on the wine already?!

The wind is picking up here, hope everyone down south is safe, we will be having the gale today so fingers crossed we will be ok. Meant to be having friends over for dinner but if the weather is bad I won't be surprised if they cancel, they live a little out of the way.

Not much to do today, there is only myself and DD for dinner tomorrow which is our choice (had loads of invites but decided to chill in our own new house), so just us to please. We will be having gammon with all the usual trimmings.

If the weather's not too bad may have a walk down to Ald!s because I can, will get some berries for meringues.

Don't get too stressed, enjoy christmas. Take care. XX

Morning :D

Am just teeny tiny bit excited that it's Christmas Eve.
I have a reasonably short list of things to do, make Nutella cheesecake, prep veg and lay the table. I think once hubby is home (he's only working half day today) some alcohol will be opened and consumed, not quite as early as Tru though :rotfl:

May need to consider cooking DS a chicken breast and I must remember to make him his own chicken gravy. His rigidity about food is getting more difficult and I can see him at this rate refusing turkey and then refusing to eat the veg etc if it's covered in a gravy that tastes different.

Need to decide what to have for tea. Might do a bacon and pea risotto. Or maybe something with rice and chicken.....the agony of choice :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a chance to enjoy their Christmas Eve. Hope no one has been badly affected by the weather last night

Merry Christmas :santa2::rudolf::xmastree::xmassmile:xmassign:

• Morning all

Blooming heck! what a breezy night we had...... 4 of our fence panels came down and we had to go and rescue the chicken coop late last night, all the run had been bent up and the coop had been lifted by the wind...Thankfully the wind has died down here now its just bad rain here now.

I've not got a great deal to do today, just a quick tidy round, prepare veg for tomorrows dinner, make a trifle and that is it.

We are off to our friends for dinner tonight, she is doing chicken and beef so looking forward to that, then back home for mince pies and cream with a glass of mulled wine before going off to the village church for the midnight service.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas eve x

Fish fed, breakfast eaten & hubby's been dropped at work, we went via the bank to get some cash to tide us over, the queue at the butchers was right round the block!! I'm glad I've already collected my meat.
There is a lot of storm damage round about, fences down & wheely bins in the middle of the road, we have some of next doors garden furniture in our garden & it's smashed hubby's net covers to pieces. We are also on flood alert, so fingers crossed it doesn't get too close.
My BIL was hissed as a newt (situation normal) and managed to get himself engaged, he only realised when he checked FB, I think he's managed to extricate himself!
Today's job is sorting out the fridge, I wasn't feeling too well y'day & getting blown across the supermarket car park didn't help, when I got home the food was thrown in the fridge, so today I need to sort it out.
Have a lovely day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
