We like to make a mixex citrus fruit marmalade including limes but whenever we include the lime peel, whether we use the boiling method or make the marmalade in the microwave the peel always ends up rock hard. Any suggestions please for avoiding this problem in our next batch?

Cleaning hired suit - help!
I'm glad there are still a few people up. DH went to an event and someone has upchucked all over his hired Moss Bros suit - red wine to boot . I have Vanished the shirt and it's in the wash now, that had washing instructions so fairly confident it'll be okay, but I'm at a loss with the trousers and jacket. Does anyone…

recommend a deep fryer?
Hello OS-ers I'm after a small deep-fryer to make chips in (possibly also home-made felafels  )It only needs to have enough capacity for a couple of portions, as there's only two of us. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a deep-fryer. I know, they're not very healthy! But it'd only get used once, maybe twice a…

Gas or Induction hob in new kitchen ?
At last we are refitting our (1970s) kitchen. I have always cooked on gas and like it, but so many sources keep saying how much better induction hobs are. Am completely confused now. I do sometimes 'burn' red pepper skins on he gas flame but that's about all I need a naked flame for and could use a blowtorch. Please can…

Induction or Halogen?
We've decided to get a new kitchen. I was impressed with the sales talk for the induction (the salesman has one and thinks they are the bee's knee's). However my husband was looking at the specs for installation and it needs a 40amp breaker, which would indicate that it will use a heck of a lot of electricity and would be…

Tinned condensed milk way out of date...
I have a tin which has a use by date of 2001 . I always use out of date stuff but just wondering if this is a bridge too far? I hate the thought of wasting it as I need it for a recipe- coffee ice-cream. If it smells and tastes ok would you use it? Thanks.

OS with a modern twist...
There's an app for that........ Just been comparing prices between the supermarkets, In days gone by I would have had to physically go to the store and walk around with a note book, noting the price, then comparing it to the next.. Living off the land
Hello all for this hitherto unvisited section of the wonderful world of MSE! I've decided following a summer of off-grid living at various solar powered events and festivals that I no longer want to live in the "modern world" and I have decided that I need to aim to buy a small plot of woodland or a meadow and live off the…
