Tinned condensed milk way out of date...

I have a tin which has a use by date of 2001 . I always use out of date stuff but just wondering if this is a bridge too far? I hate the thought of wasting it as I need it for a recipe- coffee ice-cream. If it smells and tastes ok would you use it? Thanks.

Subject to the above, I would use it. Tinned food can last decades if the tin isn't damaged in any way.

Is it a 'use by' or 'best before' date? If it isn't domed at the end, smells ok and tastes ok, then yes, I'd use it.

It wasn't that long ago that tinned food didn't have dates on it.

  • It will be fine, I used a tin of tomatoes last week that went out of date last December and they were perfectly ok

Tinned tomatoes and other acidic foods are the one thing I woukd be wary of, as the acid can strip the lining from a can, which leads to contamination
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
