OS Thread for Saturday 9th November 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Bonjour mes amis
Up earlyish (but still an hour head of you all) as wanted to get my hair washed and dried before setting off to cross the Channel and go to DS&F's. We are doing a few tip runs for them after their kitchen much needed makeover, and then he is cooking a celebratory meal for us for our 40th WA on Sunday. On Sunday we are off to church and going for lunch at a dog friendly place together with his F's M&D, more wedding talk no doubt! It was cold and drizzly 40 years ago too, I had a thermal vest on under my wedding dress, and still froze, all the photos had to be taken with flash as it was so dark, but we are still here.
Two snorers at the side of me again, and need to go and dry my hair in a mo. So ((hugs)), spoons, positive vibes, all round and a kick up the rear for any BD's which may be lurking. Not forgetting a big lick from Skye. Take care everyone DG

  • Happy 40th DG, hope you have a lovely weekend x

Well today I have to food shop :( make a more bread (well my boys can eat a loaf a day!!!) After DD nap we're hoping to go out for a few hours (we have a membership to a local attraction which is indoors and is enjoyed by both DS11 and DD1 which is a feat in itself keeping both happy)

I know the house needs hoovering, but DH will do that for me, at 9 months gone I really can't move myself let alone a Hoover! Talking on baby, it engaged a little more yesterday, oh and I hurt, and I can't move... I'm so ready for it to come now!

Tonight is HM Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas :)

Tomorrow we have church, and I'm making Butternut squash soup with fresh rolls for dinner! It's so cold I'm looking forward to it (as it has a little chilli/ginger kick)

I hope everyone has a great weekend x

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark but can hear the wind in the trees, and everywhere looks still to be wet underfoot.

DH and myself up enjoying a peaceful cuppa.

Dinner last night was chicken and prawn curry, veg curry, rice, poppadums, naan bread, and accompaniments - enjoyed by us all. Not sure what we will be eating later, but did buy sausages, hash browns, egg, bacon, etc so we could have a full english this morning. Visited the butchers yesterday and ordered and paid for my xmas fresh meat hamper - so that's all sorted, sounds daft but I'm always happier once I've got this bit done, feels like even if I'm not prepared in other ways - I will be able to provide a decent xmas dinner for my boys and DH! Was reasonably productive yesterday got all the clothes that were washed and dried ironed, DS2 was soaked when he got in yesterday as it was a beautiful morning with the sun shining then early afternoon clouded over and started raining which got steadily heavier and heavier and was really pouring by the time he came out of school - so made him a cuppa and sent him straight up to get a bath - his uniform and DH's work uniform now in WM - and for the moment the dirty wash basket is empty - doesn't ever stay that way for long though! Did get some other little jobs done, made some phone calls and did some work on the pc.

We have a few jobs to do today - and we're going to visit our friends who we caravan with and we haven't seen them for a while, so that will be a nice way to spend the afternoon for a catch up and chat. We also need to visit our caravan and I need to take the sheets off the bed to bring home to wash ready for next weekend. Didn't manage to get any cooking/baking done yesterday but will be endeavouring to get something done either today, tomorrow or possibly Monday. Want to go to next town Monday to break the back of the xmas shopping though, may even try to get it done and finished - but as I haven't actually done that much that may be a little out of reach! Will be finding some time over the weekend, to write the prezzie list and do some research for gifts for everyone else.

Have a great weekend everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Happy Anniversary Donny xx

I have been up most of the night with Molly dog. Her usual grumbling tummy and restlessness. I patted her tummy for an hour and reminded me of the sleepless nights with babies - well she is my fur baby :)

Waiting for two shops to be delivered - yes two. I am doing my parent's shopping and they dont stint on their little luxuries - good for them I say but awkward to find.

Love and hugs for a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Off to work in a minute , need to deep clean the dining room and do the biggest pile of ironing you have ever seen  when I get back

Went to sainsbugs last night and dd2 picked up some lovely jumpers and cardis, a much better price tag than the normal places she shops in :T

nmlc I've ordered my turkey and veg from the local farm shop too . They do a package where you get a free range bronze turkey all the Xmas dinner veg , pigs in blankets , gravy and stuffing . You can get Xmas pud and brandy sauce too but I make my own .
I haven't ordered my Boxing Day stuff yet though .

Hope everyone has a lovely day xx

Good Morning chums ,well slept a little better last night ,hopefully the anti-bio's are kicking in.moth is not quite as painful at the moment but very tender so I think I'll stick with the soup and soft diet today:)
Welcome back to the UK donny , hope you have a super day on Sunday.
jools27 enjoy your time in my home town and I hope you like Billy Elliot as much as I did.Fantastic show I thought and the boy just flies over the stage.
I am off to see Blood brothers at Dartford next week with my eldest DD and I'm looking forward to it.
Today I have the Virgin engineer coming to hopefully fix the fault on the service.I am not going anywhere today though as I have some ironing to do and also I want to make some leek and potato soup.Last week when I made some a chucked a dollop of sweet chilli dipping sauce in to liven it up a bit and it was delichious, gave it a bit of a kick :):)I may also make some parsnip and apple soup. This too is very scrummy and I have a few apples left in the bowl to use up.I peeled, sliced and cooked my big bag last week and now have around 4 boxes of them in the freezer for the coming winter.I loved stewd apple mixed up with natural yoghurt and a small handfull of special K.Nice as any Mueller corner anyday and half the price.
I will also make a big sponge cake for the boys for tomorrow as it helps fill their lunch boxes for a couple of days.I also fancy making a sultana and cherry fruit loaf.I do enjoy it when the weather gets a bit chillier making cakes as it warms the kitchen up and fills the tins for my grandchildren who pop in over the weekend on the off chance :):):)They know that the weekend is Granny's baking times .
I want to do a stocktake this weekend of my store cupboards and see what I have tucked away in them.
Plenty of stuff for me to to be getting on with for the next couple of days and it stops me from aimlessly going to the shops and spending cash :):):)
have a great weekend everyone whatever you are doing

  • Good morning everyone :)

Managed a sleep in until 7am which is a real rarity for me, it was lovely.

Cold and damp but no rain yet, we had some torrential downpours last night and there seems to be more forecast for today. I really wanted to tidy the gardens before Winter started so may get dressed up warm and do that first.

DH is getting read for his open day and I am going to declutter one of the bedrooms. It's free listing on ebay this weekend so want to make some progress with the selling piles too.

DG - safe journey and Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary

Molly - how is your son? Is Molly dog ok this morning?

JulieGeorgiana - I hope baby does not keep you waiting much longer!

JackieO - glad you are feeling a bit better but take it easy.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,

wet and well, wet here. Did our bit of shopping yesterday but just the things we needed, I'll do a big online shop for next week as they deliver right into the kitchen.

Getting ready for my training day, we're overnight in a hotel which is nice - I'm free and I just have to pay for DH's meals. He gets to go sight seeing and I slog it out - nice!

Have a good weekend all x

    Morning all,

Pouring with rain here and very cold I have the wm on with the first of three loads, not sure if I will get it all dry ! I am thinking I might put the heating on for an hour later, the windows are running with condensation and I am afraid things will start to go mouldy, I have the de-humidifier on this morning so will see how it goes.

Will ring my mum in a while and see if she would like a lift to the shops, my dad had a car under the mobility scheme and they came and took it away a week after he died, you would think they would give her a bit of time ! Anyway I shall go and see if she needs to do a shop.

OH has got to do something with the boiler today, we have had no hot water for 3 days, he has ordered the parts he thinks we need for £16 and is going to attempt to fix it, please keep your fingers crossed that he can as otherwise it might need a new boiler and we just dont have the money atm !

Not sure whats for dinner will go and check my list.

    Have good days all xx
