I am new to crochet and would like to ask a question
I am making a scarf which says make 34 chains
1st row states making a treble stitch 4 chains in at the start and a treble into subsequent chains.
2nd row make two chains and miss first treble andFront treble post and back treble post which makes a basket weave effect
How many chains should I be left with as I am now working on 30 and don't know if I am doing it wrong
Any help with this would be appreciated thanks

Thirty is right - the first 4 chains in your foundation stands in for your first treble of the row.
Keep going - and show us a picture when you are finished.

I was the same when I started - best thing I did was hop over to youtube and fins a channel you like to follow. I have learned masses and now find it very relaxing ................
I love to knit but need to sit upright to do it - but I can crochet snuggled up under blankets and quilts on the sofa so it is my go-to winter craft now.
When the penny drops - you will have the skill for life ...... wanders off wondering what to crochet today??? LOL
Wanna have a look at one of my Christmas pressies? Just trebles like you are doing but in a loop as a cowl.
Its so lovely lying here that I keep stroking it - may have to go and do one for myself :-)

I'd love to see that when it is done - very "Funky Red Riding Hood" :-)
Think today I shall make a crochet hot water bottle - in a Russian Doll style - another Xmas pressie for a teen who I know will love it.

Memory Girl excellent idea! Was wondering what to make this year for 13 year old - that will be perfect. I too will just do what I usually do and make it up as I go along - shall we compare notes at the end?
