  • My scarf is coming along nicely now that I have mastered the pattern. I am using Rowan colour spun in lovely hues of dark blues and mulberry. It has mohair in it and will be lovely and warm

Managed to get the cost of the wool down as it was pricey at nearly 7 pound a ball managed to get it for just over three on Amazon.
It is for a present so this justifies it somewhat.

I'm so chuffed as I can knit anything but never learned to crochet.

If you are interested there is a wonderful blog called Attic 24 where Lucy does some amazing crochet work do go along and visit you will really enjoy the colourful up beat nature of her life and work. She is an inspiration

I have decided to make this http://www.fairfieldworld.com/files/prod//Lx8kzHyMB0.FAIRFIELD-PATTERN---AMIGRUMI-RED-FOX--JUNE-13-2.PDF
for my daughter's birthday next week (). I haven't crocheted anything in about 40 years - but mastered chain stitch back then :D .
I have the pattern and have learned to do single crochet so how hard can it be? Very, it would appear, I am struggling with the very first bit, where you do 8 sc into the second chain. I don't seem to end up with enough space to do the second round. Can anyone explain it to me in very simple terms please?
    TIA

Blimey - talk about jumping in at the deep end - 3D crochet to begin!!

The 8 sc into the second chain gives you a teeny circle of crochet (at the nose)

Row 2 starts with a sc into the top of the first sc that you made into the second chain .... so you spiral outwards.

Have a look at this video - in fact youtoob is the place to check out for all these techniques ... much better than me using words.

Photos when you have finished BTW - pretty please!!

    Thank you Memory Girl :).
I've had another go and have something that looks like it could turn into a nose :D. Round 2 coming up.
Photos should be available circa 2019 :rotfl:.

There was a crochet thread on here for ages but then it was moved to crafting and I have never looked at it since. I hope this gets to stay here.

I learned everything via youtube. It took me days of try and try again to get past the foundation chain and first few rows but once I did I was off.

3 attempts at round 4 but I'm starting to "get" it now :).
I now have a little terracotta and white cone nose. That's on the crochet, not personally :D.
I can see this getting addictive.

Had to take a break to do other stuff. Now I'm stuck on round 5

    Rnd 5: white 2 increases, terracotta 1 increase (18 sc) W9, T9

Do I do both increases at the beginning of the white bit or one at either end of the white bit? Or doesn't it matter?

This pattern is classed as easy :o.

Btw I have seen the puppy, Fuddle, it's wonderful.

Good to see a crochet thread. If you peeps are not there already, check out Ravelry for patterns, chat and support. I have the same user name on there if you want to see what I have made. As somebody above said, crochet is my 'go to' craft' for sofa time as otherwise I tend to make quilts but that means being upstairs on the sewing machine, all alone and no tv. I am making a circle in a square blanket right now... and I mean 'right now' as I am multi-tasking, crochet and surfing 'net :) The dog keeps stomping across my squares and knocking them everywhere - I have set them out on the floor so I can see which colours are missing.
