Convincing your partner to be a little more, uhm, moderated with their food?
Ok, this is going to be an odd one, but bear with me. Me and my partner do the fortnightly shop together (or at least, plan it together). We meal plan when we get a chance and we try to stay within an acceptable amount of spending on food each month. However, my partner has an awful habit of 'I want it, I'll have it' and…

Eating leftover pasta for lunch?
Very quick question - am making sausage pasta tonight (cut up sausages in tomato and veg sauce mixed with pasta) - will have lots of leftovers and need lunch for work on Monday. I would have no problem eating this cold for lunch after one day but will it be ok cold for lunch on Monday if it is kept in the fridge until…

Hi all. I made gammon in coke and have the leftover liquid. Other than the nigella black bean soup, not liked in this house. Is there anything else I can do with it?

Garlic help please!
Hi, I hope I am ok to ask this here, I am trying to start cooking from scratch more and have noticed that many recipes include garlic. I really don't like garlic, the smell or the flavour! My question is, do I omit the garlic altogether or is there a way to make it milder so it enhances the dish without being noticeable in…

How to cook unidentifiable piece of pork
Just pulled a piece of pork from the freezer and don't know how to cook it! It is a piece from one of my brother's pigs, butchered earlier this year. It weighs 1.5 kg and seems to be strips about 18cm long, all bundled together. Can't see any bone in in so it is not ribs. Any ideas how I should cook this, please?

I've got a bit of a glut of all sorts of things (especially soft fruit) and i don't want to waste any of it (especially as I've just lost my job). Only have about 12 at the moment and I need loads more - in different sizes. Am also going to start…

Portion size query.....
Assuming the recipient of the meals is a working male (long days and manual work) and this is his only main hot cooked meal...how many portions of chilli would you expect to get out of 750g of minced beef? Can you base your thoughts on what a decent sized meal would be for this type of person rather than any desire to eke…

Lamb hotpot help
I regularly use up the lamb leftovers sitting in my freezer by batch-cooking a tasty lamb hotpot. However, following on from the 'food shaming' thread, I will confess to using Colman's lamb hotpot packet mix, as it really gives it a great taste that I haven't managed to replicate using only fresh ingredients. I'd love to…

How much is the 'look' of an oven important.
Due to get kitchen re-done next week. The oven we ordered isn't available now so they have said we could have a different one instead and I went into store to see the different one. The one we had - Baumatic OSF604Q had 2 years labour and 5 years parts. The one offered - Hotpoint KSO53CXS has 1 years labour and 5 years…

grated carrot-how long will they keep for?
I have a current love for grated carrot in salads. However, it is a wee bit of a faff grating it fresh each time (and I don't usually put the dishwasher on every day, so grater isn't always clean) If I grated a few of them, how long would it keep ok for in the fridge? Fridge is set at 3degrees. Thanks.

Cookbook for a friend
I have a friend in her forties, who I know can do basic cookery and baking, nothing fancy, but who told me the other day that she doesn't have ANY cookery books. I would like to buy her one. She likes most food, but her partner won't eat many vegetables. Healthy eating would probably be a good idea. Any suggestions for…
