This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Good morning everyone
One of these weekend days I will manage to sleep in! But it's not today so will make the most of an early morning and try a car boot sale.
Can't believe it's the end of August already, where is this year going. Is it just me or does everyone else find time goes faster as you get older?
Need to take GDD for school shoes tomorrow, plus DH and I need to both get our eyes tested. I think it's going to be an expensive day.
Going to quickly wrap up an Amazon parcel so I can post it on my way back from car boot and will call in the farm shop too to get some veggies and eggs.
Molly - hope all goes well for your hospital visit. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are.
Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning all!
Had a good day yesterday. Did the wee bit shopping I needed, tended my seeds and found that one spinach seed has sprouted so great excitement over that. Picked up gardening books from the library and was then visited by a neighbour who wanted to lend me some of hers so I'm now surrounded by books! I made Pacific Pie which I'll be having for dinner tonight and went to the gym. By evening I was tired and headachey so I went to bed early.
Woke this morning with the headache developing into something quite unpleasant so today will be minimalist! Need to:
* Water seeds/seedlings.
* Check I've enough groceries for week ahead and top up if necessary.
* Send favourite veggie recipies to friend who wants to reduce meat consumption.
* Go to gym if feeling better.
The rest of the day is mine, mine, mine!Household: Laura + William-cat

Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Bright sunshine here this morning. Greenhouse watered. Washing in the machine.
DH and DS1 up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken fillets in a roll, salad and chips with ice creams for dessert for the menfolk, and mushroom omlette and salad for me, I have managed to go back to being really good with my food consumption after our hols. I did put on approx 3lbs - which in the space of over 2 weeks of being away I'm more than pleased with - although I only had 1 x ice cream, 1 x portion of swiss roll and 1 x portion of chocolate trifle - as you can probably tell dessert/sweet things are not really a problem for me, I can really take them or leave them. Savoury things are my weakness, nice hot sausage roll etc! I generally make a conscious choice now knowing that I can't eat exactly what I want and have a glass of wine on a regular basis as my weight (and IBS) would cause problems not only would the weight pile back on I know I'd feel really c**p really quickly. I think I didn't pile too much weight on whilst away due to the fact that I ate quite a lot of fish - last Saturday DH and I took our friends to the fish shed to purchase fish for last Sat night's dinner, we had 1 x lobster, 1 x piece of salmon, some smoked salmon, fresh dressed crab, salad, hot new potatoes etc, was all delicious. Not sure what we will be having for dinner tonight but did a shop yesterday so have quite good stocks of most things so will decide later depending on how the day goes. When DH and DS1 get back from work they will move a wardrobe for my older sis. We also need to visit the outlaws as still have FIL's birthday prezzie here, will also deliver my mum's cards and prezzies, and her raffle prizes that she won - we finally managed to persuade them to come on a caravan rally - it overlapped with our holiday so they were there for some of the same time as us - and she bought some tickets and then left them with me as they'd gone home when the raffle was drawn - she won 2 prizes!
I was again reasonably productive yesterday, did all the normal chores, bank, food shopping etc, then made a start in DS2's bedroom - it still needs more work but at least it's becoming tidier, took rubbish to the recycling centre and some stuff back to the caravan. I also sorted the porch, again not really finished but a big improvement on where it was, and started sorting out the papers on my desk as again getting to the point of having to peer over the papers to look at the screen! (this still needs work as I didn't get this finished). I will do a bit of baking/cooking this morning as DS1 starts college on Monday so things gradually returning to normal, pack ups needed etc. Really finding keeping busy a major help with my head not being in a good place but making some headway yesterday has helped, although slept ok but woke early when the menfolk left and couldn't get back to sleep so my mind was wondering and was in a not good place, so am trying to just keep pottering/busy even if I just flit from 1 chore to the next, it keeps the mind distracted and jobs are getting done.
I better get a shower and some brekkie then crack on with some more chores! Have a good Saturday everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Seems quite bright here this morning, I think I will try putting the washing out, it's been showery the last few days so everything has been dried inside.
Good to see HH and Headlight, HH take things easy. Headlight - hope you've enjoyed the girls' holiday. We are heading for the 4th week back here!
DS2 appeared yesterday - he is going travelling very soon so has come for a visit (and his dinners!). He doesn't know it yet but he will be sorting out all his stuff in case we move while he is away! DD got some big shipping boxes yesterday so there's no excuse.
Been busy at both works but managing to get meals cooked, in fact I have been quite organised for a change!
Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone :j
I woke up at 6am this morning....bang goes my lie-in. Oh well, I'll probably sneak back for an hour later on.:). I did consider going to our local car boot sale this morning but I don't need anything and I'm trying to keep this house decluttered so decided against it. We have a farmers market on in the park this morning and it's our regatta today as well so I will probably wander down to that in a little while.
I had an order from Approved Food yesterday so I'm surrounded by boxes and cardboard much to the kittens delight. they have had a brilliant time lying in wait for each other and then pouncing as you go past.:D. In fact, it was like Christmas here yesterday with lots of parcels being delivered due to my shopping spree earlier in the week.:o. One of the packages was for my hubby and when he came home from work he told me it was for me. When I opened it, he had bought me a Bosch Food mixer, he had seen me looking at them a few days ago so he had bought it for me on the quiet.:D:D:D. I just have to work out how to use it now!
We had a takeaway last night, the last one for a while as I'm going to set myself a budget for food in September and takeaways just take up too much money, especially as there are at least 5 people eating them. I don't think I will miss them too much to be honest as there is so much salt in them I always wake up with a raging thirst.
I did something brave (for me) yesterday too. I enrolled on an access course with the Open University. Unfortunately I missed the date for the October start so I won't be starting it until February but that will give me something to look forward too as I struggle with SAD and Jan/Feb are my worst times. I have told them about my disability so there will be support for me if needed. I am very nervous about it as I haven't studied since the dark ages when I was at school. I would like to stretch my brain though and this seems a gentle enough introduction with the advantage that it is mostly all on-line learning which really suits me.:)
Anyway, that's enough waffling from me! Hope you all have a great weekend. Take care and gentle hugs to all who would like one.
Cheers m'dears x0 -
Morning all,
Nice day here again, I gave got a load of white washing on the go and will hang it out later, will also have OH's work stuff to go in.
DD is having a fab time on the IOM, they are off to a family wedding today which should be nice, I do miss her when she is not here, house is far too quiet and tidy !!
Managed to get a mis-coat on the walls yesterday and to pva the chimney breast, so today OH will plaster the chimney and I will fill all the little holes, once thats gone off we can start painting :T, my new flooring arrived yesterday its lovely, but the driver is not allowed to come onto my property, (some stupid company rule) so he dropped it out the front and I had to carry it all indoors as it looked like rain, was very heavy and hard work, I consider it as my workout for the day
Not sure about dinner its either chilli and rice, or OH mentioned something about treating us to an Indian, which I am very much in favour of !
Big hugs to Jools, it was a very hard day for her yesterday xxxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
Halight, lovely to see you.
Fish fed & I've made a cuppa for me & hubby.
Kept waking up last night in pain, not my stomach but my hip & knee joints, where I'm now so bony I'm finding the mattress too firm, a pillow helps with my knees, but ouch my hips ache. This morning my stomach is a bit delicate, but that is my fault, I ate 4 spicy Doritos yesterday evening, I knew I'd pay for it.
I had a visit yesterday from an old friend, it cheered me up no end, we had a good natter, she's retired & looks after her DGS 3 days a week, he's not quite 3 and as she only has daughters she is sometimes a bit flummoxed by him, I was able to put her mind at ease, explaining that 'it's a boy thing' and reminding her of my sons when they were little. My youngest DGD is the same age as her DGS, is toilet trained & has been for some time, her DGS shows no interest, but I reminded her that both my boys were way past 3 before they were ready. I know all children are different & one shouldn't generalise, but if it stops her worrying I'll generalise to my hearts content.
Molly, hugs.
LW, you might like this, my DD1's is a dog lover and has 2 dogs, DD2 is not keen, not unkind, but disinterested. Bowing to family pressure (husband and 3 children) DD2 agreed to get a dog, she saw one that needed a home via a friend of a friend. Went to visit the dog, paid a tenner for it even though it wasn't what she wanted just to get it away from a very inadequate home. within 10 minutes she decided to keep the dog, 6 weeks in she is totally besotted and I can't say I blame her. She's had her spayed, chipped & innoculated, she's probably a parsons JR cross with a chihuahua, about 3 years old, never been outside before and is loving her new life. She's wonderful with the children, if she gets tired she goes to her bed and they know to leave her alone. A very happy ending.
Right, time I stopped wittering and made myself some toast.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

ttftm I'm shopping for DGS school shoes as well, can't believe he is starting school. It was his last day at nursery yesterday lots of tears all round, he was only ten months old when he started.
My DD is off this week as they only do shorter hours then his daddy is off the week after, by week three he will be in full time and we start our weekly duties of picking him up on Monday nights and giving him and mum tea, I can't wait:j
My youngest has gone off to start his new job as a concierge this morning, he was really excited but I shall be anxious until he comes back and says how it went.:o
I've lost 2 lbs this week according to the scales :T
Today will be painting, painting and more painting. Shall dig out something frozen probably chilli and have it with rice quick and easy.
Tomorrow we are off to the driving range. My DIL to be wants to learn golf. They have a bit of an all boys golf club at work and she is determined to join, go girl.
We will probably have a quick pub lunch as well.
Can't wait until my brother gets here on Friday, just hope all our jobs are done, but I know he won't care.
